Rockstar hiring to bring "latest titles" to PC

Since-removed job posting at Rockstar Leeds suggests company's newest games could come to PC.

Rockstar Leeds recently posted (and has since removed) a job listing for a programmer who would assist in bringing the company's "latest titles" to PC.

No Caption Provided

"Rockstar Leeds are currently looking for a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform," reads a line from the job ad as captured by Rockstar Watch.

"Working together with the other Rockstar studios, you will be responsible for maintaining the studio’s uncompromising quality bar, delivering the highest quality PC experience possible."

The requisition also mentions "working with skilled developers on next generation gamers," suggesting Rockstar will continue to release games on PC in the future.

A Rockstar Games representative was not immediately available to comment.

Some of Rockstar Games' "latest titles" currently unavailable or unannounced for PC include 2010's Red Dead Redemption and this September's Grand Theft Auto V. The company has said a PC version of GTAV is "up for consideration."

Rockstar Games released the first official gameplay trailer for GTAV today. For more, check out GameSpot's editor analysis of the footage.

If you're a 3rd party Publisher and you don't make you're games available on PC, I'm sorry but you're an Idiot... plain and simple.

And don't give me the piracy argument, that's such BS, anyone can obtain a pirated copy of console game just as easily if they wanted to.

People aren't going to switch their preferred platform to obtain your title either... the days of exclusivity are long gone. If exclusivity still worked, the Wii U would be a massive success, because Nintendo has by far the best 1st party games. And we all know what's happening to them. They're getting slaughtered, whether they like to admit it or not.

I'm all for the consoles, and I hope they succeed, but PC gamers have tons of disposable income and they're not switching, ever.

So stop being idiots and get your s*** together.

@CaptainBerserk @GSGuy321 Yeah, that's true. Every true and honest gamer should respect the work the developers put into making the games. It's the only way to keep gaming (and developers) alive.... :)

Put it this way Berserk, when the world cup comes next year to your country, you can have FIFA14 and PES2014 on Nuveem.

And because it's on PC you will get all the Mods !

@CaptainBerserk @LordCrash88 @mindfreak1235 @GSGuy321 It's the biggest PC games distribution platform in Brasil (even I buy games there from time to time....)

Actually it's not like steam, it just sells keys/games for steam, uplay, origin and older games without account binding.

I'm from Brasil, you are right, modded consoles are very common here (mostly the 360)and legit PC gaming is nonexistent, however the legit market for the PS3 is huge. Now if GTA5 PC version would released simultaneously with consoles it would definitely hurt their sales here.

@mindfreak1235 It doesn't even matter that much. For the big publishers these are only niche markets. Just look in which countries the Xbox One will come at release. They don't care about the whole plant. If someony in country XYZ buys a game, cool, if not, ok. Sounds hard, but that's the business. The big or major money is made in the US and Europe...

@GSGuy321 @mindfreak1235 @CaptainBerserk not only there. also in south asia. and maybe some parts in africa. and the thing is most of them buy retail pirated games so you don't see the actual no. of games that are pirated.

In Latin America, it's all modded consoles. The modded console reigns supreme and pirated games are readily available for cheap.

@GSGuy321 The reason is piracy you liking or not, you don't have to modify your hardware to pirate games on PC while on consoles you have.

@CaptainBerserk @GSGuy321 On PC you have easy pircay, on consoles you have a huge used games market.....both ways the publishers/devs don't see a single buck from both users of their games who don't buy new games .......so from a financial point of view there is no big economical difference between the platform markets......
The only important variables are demand and the willingness to pay in general. How many people can you find on each platfrom who are willing to pay for a new game (the only form of game which is of interest for the publisher) and how much? ;)

Exactly, it's a complicated relationship. The industry which simply says it's a lost sale is just complete fallacy. They make that argument to further their agenda.

@CaptainBerserk @LordCrash88 Yeah, but times change. Look at what Gabe said: they never thought that they could establish Steam in Russia and now it's one of their biggest markets in Europe.....you just have to convince people with quality and service.....

Of course there are still places on this planet where hardly anyone buys games new. But that's true for PC games and console games. The arguments are the same. In fact you can't play most of the games on every platform online if you pirated them today, console or PC, doesn't matter.

And you still have to differenciate between the total number of pirated games and the number of lost customers. It's not necessarily the same, not even close. The whole thing (if you want to talk about numbers) is much more complicated than just stating "Piracy is bad because in country XYZ 80% of the games are pirated." You have to look at the price tag of the games, you have to look at the culture in countries, you have to look about all kinds of things.

But if you just concentrate on the US and Europe where most of the income of western developers is generated the difference between piracy on PC and used games sales+piracy on consoles is not that big when you just compare the numbers. And that's still a very simple comparison.....

@LordCrash88 Yes i understand, the problem however is that the PC user base is a lot larger than the console user base,(10 to 1 aprox.) and aside from the usa, europe, canada and some other countries all the rest of the world piracy is the norm, simply because is too easy, anyone can do it and you can easily check that online.

So comparing piracy to the used market isn't fair because the number of pirate users is much larger than used copies will ever be.

Nobody uses Steam where i live for instance.

Another study finds music piracy 'does not displace digital sales'

"This is the latest in a very long list now of studies that have all produced roughly similar results. We've already seen that takedown notices are ineffective at stopping piracy, and we've also seen that DRM might actually encourage it in the long run. Not to mention other studies showing similar results where music pirates are also the bigger buyers of music, and that they also consume more music overall. If the thing you want most is a music industry that gives musicians and income they can live on, music piracy has financial and economic consequences that can be distressing; but if your goal is simply for there to be more music to listen to, music piracy might, weirdly, be a good thing."

@Nergathh The point is that it doesn't matter for the business after all. Piracy doesn't change a single thing. As a businessman you have to find out how many people are willing to pay YOU for your product, on PC, on consoles and also in the music business. All the pirates and used games buyers are only potential buyers which you have to convince to buy a new copy FROM YOU. Convince them with quality and service and their willingness will rise. Steam went down this road and it is a massive success.

@GSGuy321 But you can't compare game and music sales since there are better services for music that you can stream instantly with no waiting time. With games you can't but I do understand that those who download games might not have been able to afford them in the first place and that they doesn't matter.

I read the Gabe Newell article you linked and I still feel that it doesn't speak to me. Im not saying you're wrong but I still think it is perfectly easy to pirate games and play them just as easy as to download them from steam and it offers the same value unless a game got multiplayer or co-op which people might not care about anyway aslong as they can play the story. Many people probably think it is worth saving 40-50 EUR to do that.

@GONtheSKYLORD @GSGuy321 Agreed, those who pirate on consoles have the risk of getting their console banned from internet use. One Skyrim torrent on TPB atm have 5000 seeders and 800 leechers that is about 174000 EUR in losses from potential sales. Imagen how many people that have downloaded it since it came out and the losses must be huge,

I can play my pc games on the TV and a Xbox controller I just choose to buy my games instead.

The only ones making money off the piracy argument is the middlemen: the Recording Industry and their lawyers.

They have created the fallacy in order to make money.

It's like the War on Drugs in America, the only one benefitting are the Police and the Prisons. And it's made the situation even worse.

@Nergathh @GONtheSKYLORD @GSGuy321 The simple thing is: for the publisher/developer there is no economical difference between piracy and used games. Either way they won't see any money from the people who don't buy the games new.
So it's a myth that the financial risk on PC market because of piracy is higher than on consoles (which are still heavy on used games sales)......

Remember when all us PC gamers were begging for RDR to come PC? Rockstar told us they had a game being ported to PC, and we were all excited for RDR. Then it turned out to be LA Noire. That was so lame.

nice, so we'll get RDR with all DLC's at a reasonable price. If not on release, 12 months later it'll be dirt cheap on a steam sale.

I wonder if they'll bring the last Midnight Club over too.

If tradition holds, Grand Theft Auto V will hit PC's sometime between March 2014 and September 2014. (6-12 months after the console launch.) Use your friend Google to see this maybe-sorta-eventually PC talk is eery similar to all previous GTA entries.
