The sequel to Myst is coming to the PlayStation.

Today, Acclaim Entertainment announced that Riven, the sequel to the ever-popular Myst, is under development as a five-disc CD set for the PlayStation console.

Riven will feature a storyline rich with graphically detailed gameplay, compelling animation, audio, and video sequences. The developers at Cyan have spent the last four years amassing superior resources to perfect the world of Riven, which will be released some time this fall in conjunction with the PC release of the game.

The original five-person Myst team led by Rand and Robyn Miller has grown significantly larger to now include 30 artists and designers working on 13 SGI workstations and four SGI servers. This is definitely not the same crew that worked out of a garage to build the original Myst.

So will the sequel be a success? After selling three million copies of Myst in North America, the answer appears to be a resounding yes. Millions will have to wait and see what new graphically astounding and immerse worlds the Riven team will come up with this fall.
