RetroN 5 delayed until 2014

Launch of retro machine pushed back after faulty pins found in some units.

Hyperkin's retro gaming machine the RetroN 5 has been delayed to Q1 2014.

Set to launch in December, the company found that some packaged units had faulty pins, and is now delaying the product to correctly resolve the issue.

The RetroN 5 has slots for NES, SNES, GameBoy Advance, Genesis/Mega Drive, and Famicom cartridges, both NTSC and PAL, and features its own Bluetooth controller alongside support for original NES, SNES, and Genesis peripherals.

Another key feature in the retro device is its ability to output through HDMI, which would allow people a relatively easy way to play their old games on modern television sets.

“We apologize for the inconvenience,” said product manager Lawrence Lee. “Hyperkin would like to thank you for all the support you have given us throughout the development of the RetroN 5. We are looking forward to its release, estimated to be within the first quarter of 2014, as soon as the issue has been resolved.”

Never heard of this up until just recently. Definitely going to try to get this on day one of its release. If not day one, then soon after.

I am getting this. I still have my old school SNES,NES Genesis Carts as well as the controllers to use. The included controller looks O.K but might not be the best option.

<< LINK REMOVED >> selling point for me is that i don't have to plug in 5 consoles to play all my old games, i don't think it's the sort of device that would allow you to download games

How much is this gonna be????

if this was $99 I'd probably grab it.....there's a few places that sell NES, SNES & Genesis games where I live and some of the features of the machine are pretty amazing.....plus being able to plug in old controllers to it is a nice plus......too bad we can't plug in something like the old XBOX controller or PS2 controller lol just saying.....

Just download an emulator for any old system and any game for free? I've even got a ps2 emulator that works for most games???

But saying that it's not easy to take your desktop PC round a mates for a game of mario kart so it would have its uses, just can't see it getting a lot of use. Does it do save states?

<< LINK REMOVED >> Technically, emulators are also illegal to use, at least in terms of Nintendo for sure (read Nintendo's Q&A on their website), so this is a great way to play games legally, and record and upload gameplay footage with a less chance of the video being taken down.

<< LINK REMOVED >> Most emulators are shit to be perfectly honest......either they're buggy or choppy or they don't work with controllers very well or even if it's made for an OS it doesn't always work right......

best emulator I've seen was the Visualboy Advance, Gameboy Advance emulator....it worked best on Windows XP and with nearly any controller setup all other emulators that I've messed with were spotty at best and don't get me started on the N64 emulators....those are the worst of the lot lol

<< LINK REMOVED >> emulators for older games don't work the same as the actual game. They can be choppy and buggy.

I won't lie its handy. My cousin has one and uses it. It has the plugs for all your old controllers in one package. Its a great way to save space but I prefer the actual consoles myself.

I've had emulators for all those since 2003 or so, though I can't look down to anyone who buys one, those are amazing consoles.

That thing sounds pretty cool, be able to play all the crap you never got to in one machine. Better hit up that eBay...
