Resident Evil 7 Definitive Gold Edition Announced, Launches Alongside Next DLC

The End of Zoe and Not a Hero expansions release this December.

Those who've yet to purchase Capcom's acclaimed horror game Resident Evil 7 will have a chance to pick up the entire experience in one package. Today, the publisher announced Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition, which is releasing for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC this December.

Like other "definitive" collections, Gold Edition includes the base game and its three DLC expansions: Banned Footage Vol. 1, Banned Footage Vol. 2, and the forthcoming End of Zoe, which releases alongside the package. Capcom describes End of Zoe as a "shocking installment" in which players will learn the fate of Jack and Marguerite's daughter following the events of the main game. The DLC will take players through new swamp environments and pit them against new enemies.

Also releasing alongside the Gold Edition is the delayed Not a Hero DLC. This free expansion was originally slated to launch this past spring, but it was pushed back in order to improve the DLC so that it could "match the high quality of the main game," according to game director Koshi Nakanishi. Not a Hero takes place after Resident Evil 7 and stars series veteran Chris Redfield, who will have to face the "horrors that lurk underneath the Baker's mansion."

Resident Evil 7: Gold Edition and the End of Zoe DLC expansion both launch on December 12. Players who own the game's season pass will receive End of Zoe for no additional cost; everyone else will be able to purchase it separately $15/£12.

I was very torn on resident evil

On one hand the gameplay and the asmtophere and such felt like an amazing the right direction back to its rooots and is better then anything they've released in awhile

On the other I cant really explain why but it felt super out of place when looking at it as a resident evil game

Good deal for anyone hesitant

I think I'll play this in October of 2018. When it's cheap and includes all the dlc.

They ruined a great game by changing chris redfield, they did the same with dante on devil may cry.

The ending ruined the whole game for me, with a stupid looking chris.

I returned mine after playing RE7 for one day. First game I have returned since the N64 days. It was NOT Resident Evil to me. The "drunk" feel you have while trying to move around in FIRST PERSON was half the problem. I just kept dying because of it, and I have been playing RE since RE 2 way back. RE is third person, always has been. This was a bad move.

@DarthLod: If you mean how slow you "ran" in this game, yeah, that was annoying; otherwise, this game was more old school RE than anything they've done in decades.

Stop changing Chris' design, now he looks generic and unrecognizable.

It's like they really, really wanted to give in to their urge to package the free DLC into this package and then just deny the DLC was ever meant to be free or just "delay" it until we forget about it, like they always do...

...but somehow resisted their greedy impulses. Kudos. They gave in a little, but still, it's an improvement.

@mariokart64fan: Smart move. If you know Capcom's history, they love to release a base game, promise DLC, and then make key pieces of DLC only available in new versions of the game with no other way to obtain said DLC.

@Barighm: Really makes me wonder if they will go back on their word about Street Fighter 5. I'm anticipating an ultimate edition sometime down the road with Capcom getting out of their previous comments (in regards to the launch game being the only release.) on a technicality.

That's actually quite alright Definitive now is like a lower version of GOTY edition. when I saw it I thought it meant graphic overall to improve the graphics but this looks like all DLC in one package called something fancy.

While I don’t think anyone is surprised by yet another definitive edition (let alone one by Capcom.) the good news is that this announcement is serving as a notice for all those RE7 fans who have been waiting for news of the new and long overdue DLC.

For those that managed to skip out on RE7 earlier in the year such an edition is a no brainer (-I see what you did there, Ninja.-) and for all those still on the fence this might just be the push they need to pull the trigger so to speak.

Personally as someone who absolutely adored my time with RE7 I have been waiting for this DLC since spring. I’m really hoping that the extra time "in the oven" will translate into a memorable experience right in line with the main game and that the half year long hiatus will have not been primarily due to marketing reasons.

@videogameninja: I loved it. I thought it was on par with the very first Resident Evil game for sure. a lot of people complained about the length, but honestly...has anyone ever known a Resident Evil game to be long? If you're a vet and know what you are doing, sure you're gonna breeze through it!

Did you happen to play it in VR any?

@kstaggs3:

Yeah, it really is a great game and a true return to what made myself as well as many fall in love with the whole genre to begin with. In terms of how good it compares to the others, well... let me put it this way. If someone told me that RE7 was their favorite or the best entry in the franchise I could completely understand where they are coming from. It really is that good.

Unfortunately I didn't get the chance to play it in VR but I've heard from numerous people it adds another layer of terror to an already unforgettable experience. Once I get a VR set I plan on giving it a whirl even though I've already played the game and all its already released DLC. I'll just have to make sure I have 911 on speed dial before I put that VR set on.

@kstaggs3: Yeah, RE vets should really play RE7 on a higher difficulty level. The game ends on a whimper but overall a great entry into the old school era of RE.

@tibua: Those that purchase early get to play the game while it is fresh and at the forefront. Those that wait get the full experience at a discount but 'miss out' on other games released at that time. Pros and cons.

@gotrekfabian: It's not even a year old game, I bought it a few months after release and now we get a complete edition announced already

I don't understand this, what are you trying to say

@tibua: People know that if they adopt early now that they pay for that privilege and will have to pay for extras on top of that as well. Those who buy a GOTY/Complete Edition at the time that is released won't have time to play the latest games released at that same time but get the complete game with all DlC. The privilege of being an early adopter is playing games that are at the forefront of what is possible at the time (potentially) and playing something fresh and unspoilt by people. Look at it as seeing a film at the cinema or waiting for the release to the general public. Your argument would be: but the DVD has extras, is that fair on those who paid extra to see it when it first came out? Fair? Maybe not but that is just how it is, these companies have to turn a profit and every release is always a risk.
