Report: Konami firing up Saw

Variety says Silent Hill developer will publish "gorno"-film-series-inspired horror game left orphaned following Brash implosion.

Though the so-called "gorno" craze seems to be waning at the box office, it still remains profitable. And for a while, upstart game publisher Brash Entertainment seemed keen on cashing in. Flush with $400 million in venture capital, the Atlanta-based company announced a game based on the Saw films in January 2008. Before the year was up, though, Brash would no longer exist, leaving the horror game in limbo.

Now, though, it appears that the virtual vivisection game may have found a new home. Variety reports that Konami has struck a deal with film distributor Lionsgate and game developer Zombie Studios to publish the now-orphaned game. Already far along in development, the game will be released alongside the sixth Saw movie this coming fall.

Little is known about the Saw game, other than that its plot will fill in the backstory of film antagonist Jigsaw. Variety says that actor Tobin Bell (bottom), who plays Jigsaw in the films, will lend his voice to the game, which will apparently be an ultraviolent puzzler based on the fiendish traps his character sets for photogenic youths. If the PC, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360 game does well, Konami apparently has an option to make further games down the line.
