Report: GTAIV 'poised' to make $400M in one week

It's definitely not too big for the 360. Hideo Kojima himself even said it was possible. A lot of the data on the Blu-ray discs for PS3 games isn't compressed. It's raw audio data or uncompressed CGI (so last gen) movies. The PS3 doesn't have the spare processing power to be able to decompress the files on the fly like the 360 can (another reason we won't see custom soundtracks on PS3). So if MGS4 came to 360, i'd say it would take up 2 discs, maybe 3. And just so people know, there's no loss in data when you compress, so there's absolutely no loss in compressing video or audio.

I've actually decided not to buy GTA IV when it comes out. I always buy these games, play them once, and never play them again. I mean they are amazing games, but I think I'll either borrow or rent this one.

darkride66 - I don't know about that. Even as a Gran Turismo fan I'm tired of racing games. There has been nothing new to the table in years and I could care less how pretty it is or if it takes place in a new setting. There isn't much else racing games can do.

It's because fanboys bash other fanboys to test you to see if you give in and say something back but never stoop down to they're Level just love the system you love and love the games you love. I'm as Stubborn as a Mule.

It is going multi-platform with a huge AAA title so it should sell more than Halo 3 or just about anything else. I'm not a GTA fan, in fact I'm not buying the game because it is just not my type of game, but it is huge and will sell boatloads. I hope everyone enjoys it that gets it.

Gears of War 2 was a fantastic game, better than Halo 3 imo, but the first one only sold 4million or so. I think Gran Turismo has the potential to be huge. If it doesn't come out till next year the PS3 should have 18-20 million consoles by that point, and every single title in the GT series has sold over 9 million. I think GT has huge potential and more mass appeal than either Halo or GTA. Remember, both titles are rated mature and shouldn't be played by anyone under 17. GT is about as for everyone as you can get.

I agree with hotdork70minus1. Don't be astounded if people mention Halo.

@EnderSR388 You're right about the "Real Fanboys." But maybe i'm reading the wrong websites and their forums. I never read "Real Fanboys" of any game saying "OMG 'this game' is going to beat 'my game'; but 'my game' is still the best", or along those lines. i may see the comments " 'my game' rocks" or something stupid alone those lines. But what i'm seeing now is this new breed of fansboys that enjoy bashing fanboys, so i call them fanboys of fanboys. These fanboys will make random comments on fanboys when the "Real Fanboys" haven't even said anything or said something like " 'my game' rocks." Anyways, GTAIV always out grossed Halo when they released, GTA San A. beat Halo2 in sells that year they came out, should be only fitting that GTA4 do the same.

halo3 makes 300 million on a single platform so gta4 will make somewhere around 500mill easily on a multi platform

Dont know where the other $40,000,000 comes from if you talk straight up cost, unless you throw the non-reserved copies in there. And dont fall for you local game shop telling you to pre-order it. If they are keeping 6 million pre-orders already you should be able to just walk in and get a copy without reserving it. And if you are really patient, you can get like $5-$10 off a used copy like a week or two after. Thats a lot of money, and high expectations. ( if you include walk ins people who have not preorded maybe that goes into the 400 million i dont know?? i still have to preorder my copy im a procrastinator i usually preorder the day before or what not

Since it's the main subject of posters...What other games can even be compared to the numbers that Halo and GTA have put up ? Maybe Final Fantasy ? Gears of War 2 will do well but no way it's gonna get that high. MGS4 is gonna be great but the whole series has only sold 7 million all together. Anyone ?

@feryl06 But does it need to be on the soda I drink, or the burger I eat? Do people really need to be beat over the head at every turn with Halo merchandise and advertising?? And you know what, the world has "person against person violence", sex, drugs, prostitution, corrupt law enforcement and government offices, indiscriminate killing, adultery, theft, hit and runs. That's why GTA has always sold so well. It's something that people can identify with. It's tangible. It's set to current times. Not off in space fighting aliens on a big hoop.

I don't see how this article has anything to do with Halo. feryl06 is right but this article has nothing to do with Halo fanboys or anything. I like Halo but it GTAIV makes more money then good for it.

Halo fanboys are Obsessed with the series. You tell them anything about Halo bad or good they put a thumbs down on you not that it matters.

when you say subtle do you mean like the free press "hot coffee" , and the violence and nudity and sex that this game is so famous for? don't make it sound like that Rockstar is this lowly developer without money in its pockets having to rely on "grassroots" advertising. It's hard to make a commercial that advertises a game based on its violence/sex/and nudity. That's why it's easier for Halo to advertise since it doesn't have the sex/nudity and person against person violence you see in GTA series. So what Halo had a marketing blitz? I don't see anything wrong with that? There's nothing wrong for a company to have a marketing blitz on a game their are planning to SELL.

@Bookerjj2000 You're right, they are, but the funny thing is if GTAIV does top Halo 3 in sales, Halo fanboys, let me clarify that. The Halo fanboy I'm referencing are the rabid ones. The ones that eat, sleep and breathe Halo. The ones that are obnoxious about being Halo fans. The ones that are probably still playing Halo 2. The ones that can't take any form of criticism regarding the Halo series. Those are the ones I'm talking about. Not the casual fans that just enjoy Halo for what it is. like myself. Well actually, I'm not even a fan, I just enjoy shooters! Halo has had such a PR/marketing blitz, it's not even funny! That's what my comment was originally about. GTAIV isn't being marketed aggressively as Halo 3 was. Rockstar has always relied on word of mouth and controversy to push sales. Even though it's a part of a larger corporation (2K), Rockstar still embraces the "grassroots" marketing (i.e., wanted posters on poles, stickers in windows, subtle marketing tricks). Funny enough I saw my first GTAIV commercial earlier this week. Not months in advance like Halo 3's commercials.

ScottEFresh, at the present time, Halo 3 is only attainable on Xbox 360. Deal with it.

I dont doubt that, and I bet the delay from October will help with the sales also because consumers aren't bombarded by multiple new releases. I plan to contribute...

I don't care about Halo 3 and being on one platform and blah blah blah. The fact is the GTA4 will sell more then Halo3 WITH LESS PROMOTION. Sure there is definitely GTA4 promotion out there but not on the scale of Halo3. I don't like comparing anything to Halo 3 but the fact is the fanboys ALWAYS do it so I feel the need to set them straight. Halo 3 did big things...but there WILL be games that do bigger things eventually and GTA4 is one of them...the fanboys need to deal with it.

Of course it will make more money then Halo 3, here's why. Not saying Halo 3 is a bad game at all, but it's not for me, and i'd say about more than half the 360 owners I know personally didn't buy it. Now all of them are buying GTAIV, even those who bought Halo 3, that's why. Besides it's the kinda game that's sells to a dude who will only pick up one game a year. Point, I was dog sitting this young doctors place awhile back, he owned a Ps2 and then only games he had for it were Gran Turismo and San Andreas.

I didn't want to admit it but I’m starting to think I might...just might get GTAIV…...pfff what am I saying?!… I will NOT buy this game, I know what’s going to happen I will get tired of picking up hookers and shooting them and after a while I will do so many drive bys that it will get old, after the 100000th carjacking the game will get old and repetitive and I will put it on the shelf to collect dust.... and as always, the main story will be the same rags to riches crap they've recycled all these years...please EA take over T2 and delay GTA if only for a few more months and save us from this mediocre game for just a few more weeks untill something else comes along... Im just kidding people you know I love GTA!!!! woot!!

Got mine pre-ordered and completely paid for, all I gotta do is wait for the 29th and go pick it up. I'll wait til you losers get your copies first so I don't have to wait in line! ;)
