Reggie Fils-Aime Is Still Joking About Mother 3 Questions

He jokes that he "shrunk with [their] burden."

Reggie Fils-Aime might have left his vaunted position at Nintendo in 2019, but he still has plenty to say. In a reply to a tweet speculating about his height, Fils-Aime clarified that he's actually 6 feet, 2.5 inches, joking that the weight of all of the questions about Mother 3 caused him to shrink.

Mother 3 is the 2006 sequel to the cult role-playing game Mother 2, which is better known as Earthbound outside of Japan. Widely considered one of the best RPGs to never receive an official English translation, fans have clamored for its release for decades now. (An unofficial translation was created by a team of Earthbound fans back in 2008.)

Now Playing: Reggie Fils-Aime Is Retiring!? - GS News Update

Even though the game is available in English with minimal effort, gamers still lobby for an official translation on occasion. For example, when Mother 3 was re-released on the Wii U Virtual Console in Japan in 2016, fans spoke out. Given the amount of time that's passed, however, it seems unlikely to happen anytime soon.

This isn't the only time that Fils-Aime has referenced the sheer number of times people asked him this question. During a 2014 Nintendo digital event for E3 in the style of the animated comedy show Robot Chicken, Fils-Aime toasted a fan who asked about the game with a Fire Flower.

I'm a big fan of the MOTHER series, joined in on several of the campaigns to convince NoA that the game was worth localizing, and was even heavily involved in the creation of a Fan Forum devoted to the series which sadly shut down some time ago. I made a lot of great friends, had some really great times which have since become treasured memories associated with the series, and to this day would still be so overjoyed if MOTHER 3 were to be officially localized or released that the mere idea of it is nearly enough to give me misty eyes.

However, I strongly doubt that MOTHER 3 will ever be officially released outside of Japan. Nintendo of America or Europe could have easily released the game in English at this point, especially considering that a Fan Translator has stated multiple times that Nintendo could use his Translation Patch, yet they have not. I don't want to say that it will never happen, especially when Nintendo has released the previously unreleased MOTHER 1 on the Wii U eShop as "EarthBound Beginnings" and later Star Fox 2 on the SNES Mini and Nintendo Switch Online service, but I don't see it happening anytime soon.

Nintendo is Satan. That's why they won't release Mother 3 officially.
