Red Dead Redemption 2 Money Glitch Gets You Dozens Of Gold Bars

There's gold in them thar hills.

Red Dead Redemption 2 hearkens back to a simpler time when America's paper money wasn't yet inflated. Ten dollars was a lot of money back then! But with one weird trick you can render the game economy functionally meaningless by roping in thousands of dollars in seconds.

As detailed by Raz on YouTube, you can exploit a glitch to trick the game into thinking you haven't picked up a gold bar, even as it repeatedly gets added to your inventory. It basically boils down to finding the sheriff's office in the ruined town of Limpany. As detailed in the video, the desk in this office has a gold bar, but you can break it by saving your game just as Arthur bends down to pick it up and then reloading the save. That puts several duplicates of the gold bar in the desk overlapping, so you can pick up 30 of them at a time. That sells for a cash value of $15,000, which basically makes you the Old West version of a lottery winner.

Now Playing: How To Make Money Fast In Red Dead Redemption 2

When we tested this for ourselves, we used a slightly different method. Instead of bending down and saving, we simply saved after opening the lockbox, but before taking either of the two items--a gold bar and a pamphlet. Traveling back to the lockbox revealed only the gold bar without the pamphlet. It's crucial to hold the Take button so that Arthur picks up gold bars continuously. Also, be sure to load up the correct save, because in another of our tests, hitting the wrong one seems to have broken the glitch from then on.

Of course, be warned that like any bug, taking advantage of this could have unforeseen consequences, so use at your own risk. If you do want to take advantage, keep in mind that exploits like this tend to be patched or hotfixed relatively quickly to secure the integrity of the game. If you want to ill-got some gains, you'd better be hasty.

This isn't the only way to game the system in Red Dead 2, and there are certainly other ways to make some money quickly. Check out some of our favorite cheats, and while you're at it find where to get the best horses and animal pelts. Plus you should read up on what exactly to do with that legendary bear pelt.

I did the glitch but I feel like I've cheated myself a bit. So far I've used the money to upgrade my camp and get some new clothes but one good thing is a lot of the clothing you need in the game you have to hunt pelts for.

I may revert back to a previous save. I just don't wanna screw myself out of the fun like what others are mentioning.

I bet rockstars online mode will be s glitch fest, and this glitch will still be done online maybe for a few days, as drug addict YouTubers will play online to promote their youshit channel staying up all night for glitches.

Not if it's a physical copy and you installed it via offline, that means rockstar loop holes forever out there. Forever.

Cheating in a game like this is a bad idea. You're only making the game less enjoyable in the long run. I know people who have done it and a game that should keep them interested for months or longer gets put on the shelf quickly because they've lost interest due to cakewalking through the game. Diablo III was bad for that on console. People were making exploited gear that put you in God mode. A game that you can normally play for years was being shelved in weeks because of exploited gear with insane stats. My son used the Oghma Infinium glitch in Skyrim and it ruined the game for him completely. If you kill the monetary system in RDR2 and can afford everything off the bat, working for it is a huge chunk of game lost.

@nelson85: Sort of how I view something like this. The glitches he mentions as examples break the games because they vastly overpower your character. A glitch like this basically just removes a lot of the mundane grinding.

Probably breaks the economy a bit, but it all depends on if you can be bothered with the games economy in the first place

I'm torn. I'm not a fan of taking advantage of glitches because it's just not in the spirit of things. However there's so much going on in RDR2 that it'd be nice to have one less thing to worry about.

@PlatinumPaladin:

This was my dilema as well, but in the end I decided to use it. It helped me to upgrade the camp and customise guns, but I don't think it's ruined anything, as I am the type that will do the side missions anyway.

So far I haven't regretted it

As nice as this, especially considering how valuable they made money in that game, this will ruin my game. I did this with Assassin's Creed Origins, found a way to get every weapon legendary by reloading a save but that ultimately killed the game and got bored of it. Wish I never did it. Lesson learned.

So far i'm really enjoying RDR2's economy.

@csward: yeah I think it’s something cool to do if you’ve beat the game and are grinding for that 100% but it definitely breaks the economy in the game and changes the experience

You do this, then you've ruined the game for yourselves. You'll just get bored eventually, just like rich kids in IRL, where money is no object, you have nothing to strive for.

I still recall hearing from those people who had been gifted 100's of millions in GTA Online, who soon began complaining that there wasn't enough stuff in game to spend money on. Well... duh.

@punksterdaddy: yet the stuff they tried to go back to and buy was unbuyable due to their banned account or empty account and gave up relishing over it on YouTube.

@punksterdaddy: Correct. By doing this glitch you will ruin the game. Considering almost every single activity from robbing trains, people, houses, all mini games, all missions, hunting and skinning animals rewards you with money you will quickly have zero incentive to play. I know of 4 people on my PS4 friends list that did this glitch (because the $5000 trophy will pop way before it actually should) and all 4 of them are starting to wander playing other games. Its an incredible game that is best played as intended without trying to rush through it.

@Salt_AU: Exactly. Yet some seem to have some difficulty in understanding that they will ruin what should be a well-balanced experience. Do kids not understand the purpose of playing games now?

If they want to do it, fine, but they WILL regret it.

Some people think by pointing this out, makes you some do-gooder and to those people, I say, if that is their attitude, they again, misunderstand me, I don't want them not to do it, I WANT them to ruin their game, so go right ahead, idiots.

This article contains false information. The glitch was posted on Se7enSins before the YouTuber they have linked in this article uploaded his video. (A day before to be exact)

@maaadaaaraaa: By that logic all single player games should have unlimited everything as soon as you start playing. But they don't. Why do you think that is champion?

@punksterdaddy: Chill out, Dudley Do Right. Let others enjoy their games as they see fit. They don't need you to tell them what they will and won't enjoy based on some moral high horse you look down on others from.
