Rebel Moon Star Sofia Boutella Responds To Negative Reviews

Boutella says she will defend the movie "forever."

Zack Snyder's Star Wars-inspired Netflix movie Rebel Moon earned poor reviews from critics, and star Sofia Boutella has now responded to the criticism. Speaking to Vulture, Boutella said she thought she would be "fully armed" to "take on those punches," but after reading the reviews, she said the reaction from critics "really affected me."

"I'm just gonna be honest about it. I feel like I'm carrying it for everybody that cared so much about this project, and that's what affected me. Not the way I look. If anything, I've been pretty lucky and people like my work in it, but the movie was criticized," she said. "It really affected me for all of those who put so much heart, tears, and sweat in this project. It's hard to see something being demolished to that extent."

Despite the lackluster reviews, Boutella said she was "proud to have been part of it," and that if the series does not continue, it will remain a "very important part of my life that I will defend forever."

Rebel Moon premiered in November 2023 on Netflix and put up bigger numbers than Snyder's previous Netflix movie, Army of the Dead. A sequel, Rebel Moon: Scargiver, is coming to Netflix in April. As has been widely reported, Snyder originally wanted to make a Star Wars movie but it never materialized, so he turned what he had into Rebel Moon.

A Rebel Moon video game was announced in 2023 from developer Super Evil Mega Corp. It will be available via Netflix Games, but there is no word yet on a release date.
