After years of anticipation, Resident Evil 5 will finally arrive on North American Xbox 360s and PlayStation 3s on March 13. As of today, however, Xbox 360 owners have a chance to preview the game courtesy of a new demo on Xbox Live. The free demo will feature several levels from the shuffling-zombie survival-horror game, which can be played either as single-player or, for XBL Gold members, cooperatively. Although Microsoft's announcement said there would be three levels in the demo, the version currently on Xbox Live only has two levels.

PS3 owners irked by Microsoft's much-ballyhooed "exclusive" won't be miffed for long, though. The RE5 demo is set to arrive on the PlayStation Network next week.

Resident Evil 5 is the first RE game since Resident Evil 4--GameSpot's 2005 Game of the Year. It follows original RE protagonist Chris Redfield as he travels to Africa to investigate the origins of the progenitor virus seen in RE: Code Veronica. As (bad) luck would have it, the virus has been loosed upon the local inhabitants, who go after Redfield with the cannibalistic zombie gusto the franchise is known for. GameSpot's previous Resident Evil 5 coverage has more details.
