Rage 2, Doom Eternal, More Bethesda Games Will Still Release On Steam

Where will you buy your PC games in the future?

In the face of strong opposition from the Epic Games Store, Steam has retained one of its biggest players, as Bethesda confirms its upcoming games will all launch on Valve's service. However, the publisher stopped short of confirming or denying if its games will also launch on the Epic Store.

"We're pleased to announce that Rage 2, Wolfenstein: Youngblood, Wolfenstein: Cyberpilot, and Doom Eternal will be released on Steam as well as Bethesda.net," the company said on Twitter. "We will also be bringing Fallout 76 to Steam later this year."

Now Playing: Doom Eternal, Rage 2, And More Will Come To Steam - GS News Update

The announcement comes in the wake of multiple publishers turning to the Epic Games Store to release its games, rather than the previously dominant Steam. The Division 2 skipped Steam for the Epic Store, for example, as did Metro: Exodus. Upcoming games making the same move include Control and the PC launches of Quantic Dream titles Heavy Rain, Beyond: Two Souls, and Detroit: Become Human.

The Epic Store opened in December 2018 and has been aggressive in securing exclusives and giving away free PC games, the most recent of which is Oxenfree. Epic also takes a much smaller share of revenue from game sales when compared to Steam, making it an attractive proposition for developers and publishers. On the other hand, Steam has a larger install base and has been around for much longer, meaning it possesses features the Epic Store does not, including cloud saves, achievements, and more.

Bethesda has made some missteps with Fallout. I'm glad to see they're making adjustments.

Doom Eternal is going to be amazing and I'm happy I can get it at my preferred marketplace.

Quantic Dream really screwed themselves by limiting their exposure to the Fortnite dispenser. Not that I have any respect for David Cage or his non-games, but he needed all the help he could get.

Well it isn't going to save Bethesda's reputation but it helps a little and doesn't make it any worse.

Oof Sony's stream was so bad. I seriously hope that's the worst one they ever do.

As long as they release it on several stores, there's no problem with Epic store being one of these. The problem is the forced exclusives, not Epic store's existence.

@enigmaxg2: Indeed. If they want people to buy the game from Epic, they shouldn't try to take away other options. If anything, they should approach Epic with a proposal to get their game's content into Fortnite for people who get the Epic version of the game or buy the game on Epic's store front instead of others as part of a licensing deal.

@videogameninja: Of course it is; is anyone even surprised? Remember lower prices for the consumer being one of the selling points of the Epic Store? That one of the main reasons for giving devs a higher revenue split was to spur lower prices for us gamers? Yeah; that's just a load of bologna. Their prices are the same as Steam's, and in some cases (looking at you UbiSoft) even higher.

Good move. Bethesda can't afford to angers their fanbase after what happened with fallout 76
