Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the plans in a message to fans on Twitter, stating that “we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac.”

The announcement comes days after a developer, going by the online handle Twisted, announced an unofficial Remote Play app for Windows.

Remote Play launched in November 2013, during the global release of PlayStation 4, and was pitched as an alternative way to play PS4 games through a second screen. Gameplay data is streamed to the PS Vita across a home Wi-Fi network, with input commands returning back to the system. Certain phones, such as Sony’s Xperia Z5, are also compatible with the service.

There are no further details yet on how the service will work for PC and Mac owners.

Microsoft offers a similar console-to-PC streaming service, where an Xbox One can be mirrored on a Windows 10 device.

@7tizz: To be fair, you're right, in modern history, Asia has been lacking imagination to develop new products, but what they do, is make smaller, faster and overall better what west develops.

@7tizz: Tell that to your Xbox One games printed on blu-ray discs and played on a blu-ray drive. Do you know where they we're invented and who played a major role in both ?. I'll tell you where and who, Japan and Sony, lol

@7tizz: You single out Japan but use Western SS a whole, lol. I'm pretty sure America copied Eastern innovations aslo. Speaking of innovation, thank Japan for playing a major part in your Xbox One, the blue ray disc and player. See you fanboys talk mess about Sony but the Xbox One have Japan innovation with in it, lol. Also thank Sony for portable music, after they invented the concept with the Walkman and Compact Disc Player, lol

@i_am_battlecry: 7tizz has some personal grudge with Japan, kind of ticks me off coming here seeing it. Why can't we all just focus on the topic? If you dislike the console and its features, that's fine but let's not bring up race superiority.

@7tizz: Remote play has been a feature on PS4 since launch. It was on the PS3 in a limited capacity before that. Remote play is the innovation, not which platform it streams to. And sorry to say that a "Japanese company" gave it to us first.

@domiddian: basically everything sine WWII. they went all over to the US to learn both English and technologies. then they brought over their knowledge back to Japan and improved them as they deemed fit.

@Ahiru-San: Except I think he’s trying to claim that Sony ripped off Microsoft here in terms of Playstation and Xbox features, which just isn’t true.

Secondly, you can’t make sweeping (bordering on almost xenophobic) generalisations like that. Japan has copied other countries ideas, sure. But then so has the US, the UK, France, Germany etc. etc. since time immemorial. Ideas get copied and improved upon, but those improvements are innovations in and of themselves; that's how we develop as a species. Please don’t tell me you're trying to suggest that the Japanese were absolutely clueless and had no ideas of their own, because that would just be cartoonish in its ignorance.

@domiddian: This.

Every country copies from each other.

Also, Americans. Apple pie didn't originate from the US.

Can we move on yet?

@7tizz: lol even taking the fanboyism away this I nonsense. Japanese tech companies have been at the front of innovation of nearly every market going for decades. Before the modern era they were also at the front for thousands of years, yeah before the USA even came into being. Pfft.

@kyelo: Oh do be quiet. You sound like a Japanese fanboy.

Japan has done nothing more than China, Egypt, Greece, India and the Ancient Middle East.

It is also terribly exaggerated how much innovation of gaming was done in Japan. Oh, they've done a lot, but no more than Western innovators in mostly the US, and UK.

@billzihang: Please quote where I said Japan has done more than the nations you mentioned? Yep I didn't, I ONLY mentioned Japan in context vs the US. Being 'at the front' does not mean 'the only and/or 1st'.

@billzihang: lol japan is the place where most western innovation comes from, most things from the UK (where i live btw) are usually copies of a concept that some japanees person came up with but couldn't be bothered to actaully make.

@neowarrior793: Yes, this is all very kawaii, shame it isn't true.

Japan is certainly a country noted for its tech - more so than UK in these days (the UK is more notable for medicine for example), but not more than Germany or USA.

As far as gaming goes. It was pioneered in USA, Japan quickly got on board and made many additions. The market crashed, then Japan took up the console and arcade baton; and the UK took up the home computer side of things. IN about the mid-90s it was very much a tug of war between Japan and the West. Frankly at some point in the early 2000s Japan lost its rather strongly in the tech area.

The Ps3 Cell chip was a collaboration between the West and Japan. The GPU RSX was co-op made, again by Nvidia and Sony.

Now things are much more international. All that tech inside the Ps4? Well, that's by ATI/AMD, and they're not Japanese.

Again, you are factually wrong. Stop being a Japanese fanboy and acting like they invented everything. I know it's fashionable to love Japan and all, but see the reality of things.

Japan - along with many countries - has added to the culture and tech of this world, certainly more than its fair share of tech for its size.

Don't think I'm someone who doesn't appreciate the technical accomplishments of Japan, after all, I'm into photography.

@neowarrior793: I don't know about that, the UK has contributed quite a lot in terms of innovation. There's a big difference between having an idea and actually going out there and putting that idea into practice. The UK was able to do this pretty much wholesale during the industrial revolution and whilst I do agree they did pinch some ideas, there's been a lot of home grown talent from the isles.

@domiddian: yea alot of ideas in the UK we just nick off other counties, then we make it better. clocks are a good example some guy in germany thought up the idea of using gears and such and the uk then we made them. things like the internet we created the browser for it to work. it shows how lazy we are, "look you made somthing ill make 20 things to work with that"

@neowarrior793: Yeah, but how about the jet engine or penicillin? The UK was the first country to develop a working computer, the first to broadcast a TV signal etc. That took an ingenuity all of its own.

Then again you could say that every single invention known to man was invented off the back of some other invention. Take the car for example; wouldn’t have happened without the horse and carriage, so it's kind of a moot point.
