Sony Worldwide Studios boss Shuhei Yoshida confirmed the plans in a message to fans on Twitter, stating that “we are indeed working on an official application for PC/Mac.”

The announcement comes days after a developer, going by the online handle Twisted, announced an unofficial Remote Play app for Windows.

Remote Play launched in November 2013, during the global release of PlayStation 4, and was pitched as an alternative way to play PS4 games through a second screen. Gameplay data is streamed to the PS Vita across a home Wi-Fi network, with input commands returning back to the system. Certain phones, such as Sony’s Xperia Z5, are also compatible with the service.

There are no further details yet on how the service will work for PC and Mac owners.

Microsoft offers a similar console-to-PC streaming service, where an Xbox One can be mirrored on a Windows 10 device.

What i thought the Vita originally was going to do is stream the games you own for PS4 no matter where you were as long as you are connected to the internet and are signed in to your PSN account. Not being able to be a certain distance from my console it kinda defeats the purpose. Sony already let's you stream PS3 games to your console for a price so the tech is there but what they got to do is let you stream these games on your vita from anywhere as long as you have a PSN and PS plus subscription. Streaming to PC's is cool in theory but if it's only to my PC screen that's 10 feet away from my big screen TV then that defeats the purpose as well in my opinion.

@grizt00f: it works anywhere, as long as you have good enough interwebs.

@grizt00f: you can stream over the internet from anywhere. Of course, if the connection is slow you are gonna be in pain, but this is not accurate information you are giving

@grizt00f: You can be on the other side of the world, 12,000 miles away from your PS4 and still stream games to your Vita. As long as your PS4 is on and connected and the Vita is connected you're good to go. Although if the connection speed is low, it kinda sucks.

@domiddian:

I'm pretty sure my kid streamed in my car off my LTE service on a trip before.

I don't know how well it worked but I was pretty sure it would do it.

@lrdfancypants: I mean exactly what i said i just go deep with specifics, i believe the streaming service is substandard and even though you can technically go outside with your vita to stream PS4 games from what i have read, heard and seen it needs some serious fixing. It needs to be simplified and work flawlessly at all times. These days things are churned out broken, half assed or with features missing but promised we will get them in the future. I see people are slowly getting used to this because it happens so much now so they start defending it. Me personally i like my PS4 and this is just an opinion so please don't think i'm trying to personally attack anybody's loved device infact i wouldn't mind having a Vita of my own. If you're enjoying the streaming it offers and you have had no issues with it whatsoever then hey that's great! more power to you, just don't jump on me when i say i don't like it. And i'm not saying that any of you did that so please take no offense to it i just see how fast a disagreement can lead to bickering and fighting online and i'm too old for that. Good day to you ladies and gentlemen.

@grizt00f:

What on earth are you talking about?

It does stream from anywhere. People are correcting your false statement.

Now you're acting like you're being attacked? You made an incorrect statement then followed it up with you don't even have a vita???

You're wrong and that's it. It has nothing to do with ps4 attacks. People immediately go to the tried and true "I'm not attacking your beloved device". Lol whatever man I don't give two dumps if you're attacking anything. You're wrong, that's all.

@aiden_kasel: sorry man, I just got it for 24... but been waiting forever for it. Also just got the order for 10 bucks. So far it's a great game. A good break from the norm.

well, this makes owning a vita less appealing for whose looking to buy the system I guess.

@sakaixx: Not really. I don't know anyone who bought a Vita for remote play. I bought mine for Wipeout 2042, Uncharted Golden Abyss, Tearaway and Killzone: Mercenary. Even after finishing those games I'm still having tons of fun with it. Great when I go away on business.

I know it's not a system for everyone, but remote play is not a reason to buy a Vita.

@domiddian: I bought it originally for remote play with the PS3. Then it got absolutely no support after launch and remote play for the PS3 was pretty much a lie. Uncharted, Killzone, Resistance and Mortal Kombat were fun for a short while. The Vita was a waste

@domiddian: I agree, I absolutely loved it, but Sony did a terrible job supporting it. The lack of remote play support and worthwhile FPS games were huge issues for me, though.
