Pokemon reboots sell 50k down under
Pokemon SoulSilver and Pokemon HeartGold hit the right notes with Aussie gamers.
Hollywood has been rebooting old franchises for a long time now (with mixed opinions from punters), so why shouldn’t the video game industry follow suit and cash in on the trend? Nintendo's latest efforts at reviving old games, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver, remake the Pokemon Gold and Silver titles launched on the Game Boy Colour in the year 2000 and have proven a blockbuster hit for the House of Mario. Nintendo today announced that between them, Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver had sold in excess of 50,000 copies around Australia in only their first week of sale.
The biggest addition to the series reboot is the inclusion of the Pokewalker, a hardware accessory bundled with the game software that acts as both a standard step-counting pedometer and way to earn game credits while exercising. The device stores Pokemon watts and allows you to trade pocket monsters with friends and find hidden items by completing virtual walks. Other new additions include dual-screen functionality, new Pokemon to find, battle, and train, and updated game visuals.
