An official Pokemon Presents livestream for Pokemon Day 2024 on February 27 has been announced. The broadcast is scheduled for 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET and will feature "exciting Pokemon news," according to The Pokemon Company.

What could that news be? Currently, the ninth generation of Pokemon appears to have wrapped up now that the two-part expansion The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero--and its epilogue Mochi Mayhem--are out in the wild. Fans are expecting to see what's next for the franchise, and if rumors of a Pokemon Black and White remake will turn out to be true.

Other Pokemon spinoff games could also be in the spotlight, as the last couple of years have seen a new Pokemon Snap, Mystery Dungeon, and mobile games launch, In expanded media, there could also be teasers for new episodes of the longrunning Pokemon anime series, a first look at a new feature film in that universe, and a sneak peek at new Pokemon Concierge episodes, the delightful stop-motion animated series on Netflix.

Whatever is next for Pokemon, it'll come after an especially busy couple of years for longtime developer Game Freak. Pokemon Scarlet and Violet might have sold well--shifting 24.36 million units worldwide by the end of 2023--but the Switch game was criticized for a wide variety of performance issues.

This could be partly attributed to Game Freak's busy release schedule, as the developer has produced and overseen Pokemon: Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee, Pokemon Sword and Shield, Pokemon Legends: Arceus, and Pokemon Scarlet and Violet since the start of the Switch era.
