Pokemon Go Watch Accessory Launching Next Week
The device will not flag Pokemon attracted using incense, however.
Nintendo and The Pokemon Company have announced the release date of Pokemon Go Plus, an accessory that allows wearers to catch Pokemon without having to look at their phone. The device will be launching worldwide on September 16.
As detailed on the official Pokemon Go website, Pokemon Go Plus will launch in "most countries" on that date and be available in select South American territories "later in the year".
Pokemon Go Plus is a companion device which can connect to a phone via Bluetooth Smart and provide alerts to the wearer about nearby PokeStops and wild Pokemon. Users can catch Pokemon by pressing a button without having to pull out their mobile phone. Notably, the device does not provide alerts for any Pokemon attracted by the in-game incense item. It does not track distance walked if Pokemon Go is running in the background.
Pokemon Go Plus is compatible with the following operating systems:
- iOS 8 - 9
- Compatible with: iPhone® 5/5c/5s/SE/6/6s/6 Plus/6s Plus
- Android 4.4 - 6.0
- Compatible with: Android 4.4 or higher that have Bluetooth® Smart (Bluetooth v4.0 or higher) capability and RAM2GB or more.
