Pokemon Go Virizion Guide: Best Counters, Weaknesses, Raid Hours, And More Tips

Lugia has officially left Pokemon Go once again, but three more Legendaries have returned to take its place. As part of the ongoing Pokemon Home event, the Swords of Justice Cobalion, Terrakion, and Virizion are making an encore appearance in Raid Battles from November 16-24. To help you conquer each of the returning Legendaries, we've rounded up some tips on how to beat and catch Virizion below.

Virizion Raid Hours

Virizion will return as a five-star Raid boss (alongside Cobalion and Terrakion) starting 1 PM PT / 4 PM ET on November 16, and it'll remain in the game until the same time on November 24, giving you just over a week to catch it. As usual, Raid battles don't follow a set schedule, but you'll receive a notification in the game when one is about to begin at a nearby Gym. To participate in the Raid in-person, you'll need to have Raid Pass. You can also join a Raid remotely with a Remote Raid Pass.

Virizion Weaknesses And Counters

As a Grass/Fighting type, Virizion is especially vulnerable to Flying-type Pokemon, making those your best bet to defeat it. Lugia is a great counter, particularly if it knows Aeroblast, but Dragonite, Moltres, Tornadus, Rayquaza, and other Flying Pokemon that know Flying-type attacks will also be useful when challenging the Legendary.

Virizion has a few other weaknesses you can exploit. The Legendary is also weak to Ice, Psychic, Fire, and Fairy Pokemon. Gardevoir is a great choice because it can know both Psychic and Fairy attacks, while Mamoswine is a great Ice-type attacker. Other good Pokemon to bring along include Togekiss, Granbull, Glaceon, and Chandelure.

Types To Avoid

Like the other Swords of Justice, Virizion is part-Fighting, which means it has an advantage over Normal, Ice, Rock, and Steel Pokemon. Its Grass typing also means Virizion will deal super-effective damage to Water and Ground Pokemon if it happens to know a Grass attack, so avoid bringing along Pokemon of those types when challenging it.
