Unlike the main Pokemon games, which were developed by Game Freak, Pokemon Conquest was created by Tecmo Koei. The game is set in Ransei, which mimics feudal Japan and also contains cartoon versions of historical figures like Oda Nobunaga and Uesugi Kenshin.

Gamers take on the role of a young Warlord linked with a Pokemon. Combat is handled in an isometric view and is turn-based, much like strategy role-playing games such as the Disgaea series and Final Fantasy Tactics.

Pokemon Conquest will mark the second new Pokemon game to arrive for the DS in 2012. It follows Pokemon Black 2 and Pokemon White 2, which are slated to hit the portable this fall.
