Phil Lord and Chris Miller, the directing duo behind The Lego Movie and the Jump Street series, are set to direct a new pandemic movie. The pair have been hired to adapt the book, The Premonition: A Pandemic Story, and make it into a movie.

Fast & Furious studios Universal Pictures bought the rights to the book, which was written by journalist Michael Lewis. The book tells the story of the start of the pandemic, specifically focusing on the people who saw what was coming and tried to warn others.

From Variety's report, the book's description is as follows:

"Three central characters--a biochemist, a public health worker and a federal government employee who work in the White House as they confront the COVID-19 pandemic and find the response from the United States government is woefully inadequate."

The book was only just published on May 4, so Universal acted quickly to snap up the movie rights. Variety said the tone of the film will be similar to All The President's Men, which was about the Watergate scandal.

Author Michael Lewis previously wrote Moneyball, The Big Short, and The Blind Side, all of which were adapted into popular films with huge stars attached. As for Lord and Miller, they were also attached to direct Solo: A Star Wars Story before they were fired. After that, they produced Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse and won an Oscar for it.

According to Deadline, the search is now on for a screenwriter to adapt The Premonition for the screen.

The Premonition is not the only pandemic movie in the works, as comedy legend Judd Apatow is making a meta-movie about the pandemic and actors who get stuck in hotel quarantine.
