The past couple of months have been an excellent period for JRPG fans, with remasters of classics like Xenoblade Chronicles: Definitive Edition and Trials of Mana coming out recently. While both of the aforementioned games are on Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4 fans can pick up Persona 5 Royal, an enhanced version of the acclaimed 2017 JRPG. Persona 5 Royal released March 31, and if you're a fan of the original game but held off on buying P5R at launch, you can currently snag it for a fantastic price at Best Buy and Amazon.

The standard edition is priced at $60 regularly, but right now you can grab a copy of Persona 5 Royal for just $40 at Amazon; the same deal is also available at Best Buy. This is the base game, not the steelbook launch edition (which is sold out), but this is still by far the best price we've seen on the game since launch. (As part of Sony's Days of Play sale, the game is also on sale digitally for $45 on PSN.)

Persona 5 Royal is the "definitive version of a modern classic," as editor Michael Higham wrote in his Persona 5 Royal review, which scored the game a rare 10/10 (the original earned a 9/10 back in 2017). If you're new to Persona 5, this is absolutely the version to buy even though it's more expensive than the original version. And if you've already played and loved Persona 5, P5R makes it worth revisiting, especially while it's on sale.

Persona 5 Royal adds a slew of new content and features, including a new party member, Kasumi, and a new confidant, school counselor Takuto Maruki. P5R also adds a new school semester with a new Palace, a new location with new shops and hangouts to explore, new animated cutscenes, new story endings, and much, much more. For those who loved Persona 5, P5R offers a ton of new content and improvements to make it worth the investment.

"The extended version, Persona 5 Royal, brings the heat all over again," wrote Higham in his review. "But beyond a plethora of superb gameplay refinements and features that improve an already-rich RPG comes a momentous new story arc seeded within the original narrative and paid off in full by the end. It delivers something genuinely surprising, leading to awe-inspiring moments and emotional conclusions that recontextualize what I thought the game was."

"Persona 5 Royal is many things: a collection of small inspiring stories, an ambitious harrowing journey with some good friends, a stunning visual and auditory experience, a resounding call to action. By refining what was already great and building on its best qualities with a brilliant new story arc, Persona 5 Royal asserts itself as an unforgettable and empowering RPG that should be recognized as one of the best games of our time."
