The Star Trek universe is a busy place. Paramount has announced today that they plan to continue the movie franchise that was originally launched in 2009, otherwise known as the "Kelvin Timeline" helmed by J.J. Abrams.

According to Deadline, the new film is looking at a production start in the winter of 2022 and intends to reunite the cast from the first three films in the series, including Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, John Cho, and Simon Pegg.

Details about the tentative plot are being kept strictly underwraps, but Abrams himself confirmed that the film is being planned out during an investors call for Paramount today, though he will only be on board as a producer. Matt Shakman (WandaVision) will direct with a script laid out by Mark L. Smith and Noah Hawley.

The last film in the series, Star Trek Beyond, was released in July of 2016 and was directed by The Fast and The Furious's Justin Lin with Simon Pegg and Doug Jung on the script.

A release date for this new project has yet to be announced.
