Ori developer Moon Studios announced its next game at The Game Awards, an action-RPG called No Rest for the Wicked. The tone of the debut trailer was a departure for the studio, with a more mature tone than we've seen in the mostly tranquil and animated Ori games. No Rest for the Wicked is coming to PC early access in early 2024, with a full release on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X|S coming later.

The narrative takes place in a fictional kingdom in the year 841, where a king's recent passing creates a chaotic fight for succession. Against all this background, a plague hits the island of Sacra, prompting you to take up arms to defeat the beasts there, as well as fend off the invading kingdom. Moon promises tactile combat that emphasizes skill and timing, along with multiplayer for up to four-players in online co-op.

A gameplay trailer showed lots of horrific imagery and monsters, as well as a glimpse of the isometric action combat. Moon says it will share more details at a "Wicked Inside" digital showcase, scheduled for March 1, 2024.

"We have been dreaming of being able to contribute to the ARPG genre that we all grew up with and love. After the success of Ori, it was clear to us that Moon was now mature enough to finally realize those dreams,” said Moon Studios cofounder Thomas Mahler, in the announcement. “We can't wait to see how players will react to this entirely new take on the genre!"
