Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis E3 2004 Preshow Impressions

The Xbox version of Bohemia Interactive's conflict simulation game boasts additional missions and Xbox Live support.

Though the Xbox version of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis was scheduled for release in Europe toward the end of last year, we've not heard anything about it since we played it at E3 last year. The Xbox game will feature the same campaign missions that were present in the 2001 PC version and will also offer 14 additional missions, a mission editor, and multiplayer missions designed specifically for Xbox Live.

Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis is played from a first-person perspective and will feature more than 40 land, sea, and air vehicles, both military and civilian, for you to employ as you see fit. Military vehicles confirmed for inclusion in the game to date include the UH-60 Blackhawk helicopter, the A-10 Thunderbolt jet, the M1A1 Abrams tank, armored personnel carriers, and SCUD launchers. Not only will you be able to use these vehicles yourself, but you'll be able to issue orders to colleagues who are using them in the same way you do when your squad is on foot.

Realism is the name of the game in Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis, and in addition to true-to-life models and physics for all of the vehicles and weapons, the game will even boast accurate star constellations for those of you able to navigate the game's expansive environments using them. No matter what your mission, you'll be free to explore the environments as you wish, and many of them span areas as large as 100 square kilometers.

The release of Operation Flashpoint: Cold War Crisis has already been delayed on more than one occasion and is currently scheduled for September. We'll bring you more information on the game as soon as it becomes available.
