Oculus Quest Sold Out At Major Retailers

If you're looking for a VR headset for Half-Life: Alyx, then the Oculus Quest is a great, versatile choice.

As VR continues to grow as a platform, many have stuck with the Oculus Quest as their go-to headset. It's portable, but can play Half-Life: Alyx (through Oculus Link), you should probably pick up a Quest right now. The official Oculus store has run out of stock for both the 64 and 128 GB models, but Amazon has some third-party sellers selling the 128 GB version for its standard $500 price. Considering how quickly these listings have sold out when they pop up, we recommend getting one while you can.

The all-in-one Oculus Quest is a completely wireless device, giving you the freedom to experience and play VR games anywhere you want. However, it's also compatible with Half-Life: Alyx if you plug it into your PC. This is possible through Oculus Link, a technology that lets you plug your Quest into a PC with a high-speed USB-C cable and play Steam and Rift games as if it was a PC VR headset. Of course, you'll need a high-quality cable to do this. We recommend Anker's Powerline+ USB-C to USB 3.0 cable, which is what I use with Half-Life: Alyx.

The Oculus Quest is one of the best VR headsets out there, thanks to that versatility. In addition to Half-Life: Alyx, it's capable of playing pretty much every VR game out there--except for PlayStation VR exclusives. If you're looking for something to keep you busy while you're stuck inside, the Quest VR headset is a great way to escape reality.

While you kill time until your VR headset arrives, be sure to check out all of the free games you can claim right now and the best TV, movies, and games for social distancing.

I’m a bit surprised the Rift S is sold out and the Quest isn’t. Ever since Oculus Link was announced, the S kind of has less value. Maybe because Oculus Link is still in beta or doesn’t work all the time? I doubt the very slight bump in refresh rate is making the difference. Also pretty sure the Quest has higher resolution. Or maybe Oculus just isn’t manufacturing as many S models now.

@fester420: Can't say every day, but it is a hell of a lot better than my CV1. Absolutely love it (Though I did order a third party halo strap a few weeks back as I don't care much for Oculus' choice of support for the user's head).

@Smosh150: yeah every day isn’t me but I do use it a lot more than any other VR headset I’ve ever owned. It’s so easy to get into when I want compared to Vive which seemed like my lighthouses frequently wouldn’t wake up or something else would go wrong or my Rift S would overload my USB controller and I’d spend 15-30 minutes getting ready before I could even game.

@jusstadrop: I never had (or have) any problems with my Vive Pro. But I’m using the wireless adapter, so maybe that’s a bit more stable. It’s only 60 seconds of prep for me. Also I didn’t buy into late 2018, so maybe SteamVR was more polished by then. But I hear the Quest is a great headset as well. I recommend that to many people that haven’t tried VR or don’t have a gaming PC. I also think Oculus has the smartest approach to making VR popular (releasing budget but very reliable/solid performing headsets).

@jusstadrop: Exactly, it was the prep time and all the annoying bits that really made me steer away (And that I was confined to only one smaller area with sensors all around). Now I just set it up on the Link, or run it wirelessly (Be in PCVR wireless or built in). Wireless really made all the difference.

Edit: Not so much steer away, but outside sitting VR I didn't want to bother with getting ready.
