Nvidia Working With Ubisoft on Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4 PC

Nvidia is helping to bring "Hollywood-levels of smooth animation" to Ubisoft's upcoming titles.

According to a press release, Ubisoft and PC technology company Nvidia are working together on the PC versions of Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, and other Ubisoft games. This announcement continues a partnership that began with last year's Splinter Cell: Blacklist.

The press release states that Nvidia's support will allow the upcoming Ubisoft titles to incorporate more advanced tech and perform better than they otherwise would have. Ubisoft specifies that Nvidia's GameWorks team will bring "cutting-edge" graphics tech to the games. This includes "TXAA antialiasing, which provides Hollywood-levels of smooth animation, soft shadows, HBAO+ (horizon-based ambient occlusion), advanced DX11 tessellation, and Nvidia PhysX technology."

Ubisoft Vice President of Marketing Tony Key says, "Working with Nvidia has enabled us to bring an enhanced gameplay experience to our PC players… Through GameWorks, we have been able to add unique visual and gameplay innovations to deliver amazing experiences for these stellar Ubisoft games."

Recently, though, the GameWorks partnership has sparked controversy with the release of Ubisoft's Watch Dogs. Many users are reporting performance problems for Watch Dogs on PCs using AMD hardware. As a result, Nvidia's rival AMD has claimed that GameWorks tech "deliberately [cripples] performance on AMD products to widen the margin in favor of Nvidia products."

In the last few months, Ubisoft has released an announcement trailer for Assassin's Creed Unity and cover art for Far Cry 4. Both games will be at E3, so keep an eye on GameSpot for news, previews, and impressions of all upcoming Ubisoft games.

Am i the only one here that think "Wow, Watch Dogs runs better than what i expected" ?
Also, the graphic is pretty good for low settings (with HBAO+ low).

2009 $700 Laptop. With FPS around 30-40.

The only thing is that I need to put a damn fan beside my laptop.

God Damn Ubisoft !!!, They seriously needs to fix Watch Dogs PC. Better hop AC:Unity & FC4 doesn't run like crap on launch. My brand new GTX 770 can't run Watch Dogs without stuttering. What a poor console port. Yes Watch Dogs graphic look so downgrading. Skyrim ENB is more stunning.

Hopefully it doesn't have "hollywood-level" storyline and characters too.

Didn't they work with nVidia with Watch Dogs... Well I hope they get it right this time.

I still can't play Watch Dogs in full spec mode. I had to drop everything to medium to get any sort of good frame rate.

<< LINK REMOVED >> You are right. Watch Dogs started on the PC, but it changed development once the PS4 came out. They rode that "PC is the lead platform" mess into the ground when they knew they switched to the PS4 and ported it to the PC. They told on themselves when asked about the problems saying "PCs don't have a unified memory architecture". That's how you knew it was a guaranteed port from PS4.

@ceaseless @Marky360 Really explains why the game takes advantage of numerous technologies that are exclusive to the PC version! You do realize that PS4 and PC are both x86 architecture right? A "port" doesn't really mean anything anymore. A PS4 effectively IS a PC.

<< LINK REMOVED >> The PC port "apparently" has memory issues causing stuttering, despite both PS4 and PC being x86 architecture it was developed for 5GB unified memory (i think that's all the PS4 and X1 have available for games).

Still doesn't explain why it wouldn't work on a GTX Titan with 6GB of v-ram though ????, so i guess Ubisoft were just talking $%# after all ????

<< LINK REMOVED >> It's not about "what's a PC". The point is it wasn't made to take advantage of common PCs and that the game was built around the PS4's architecture when the PS4 released with that unified pool of RAM. On PC, we have system RAM and graphics RAM seperately. The game wasn't made to take advantage of that in the proper way. What we have here is ported over from the PS4 with a few added Nvidia features and there is a difference.

You can't just duplicate a game from a specially configured console and expect it to work the same on a PC because "A PS4 is effectively a PC". It's not that simple.

Guess I will have to wait a month or two after these games are released for patches and updated drivers. It is a sad day that you have to wait to play all your favorite PC games so late because of game-breaking bugs.

EA and Ubisoft should learn from the Indie devs who make the game unbiased even though they need the money more from these partnerships.

You know when everyone says that PC gaming isn't dead, I think if PC gaming was ever going to die Nvidia would be the cause of it.

They are perfectly happy to pump out new graphics effects and crap like that which are inefficient and make the game run like crap in general so people need to buy their expensive graphics cards to brute force their way through them. Or in terms of Watch Dogs buy their expensive graphics cards and still have the games run like crap. But if they spent half as much on optimising games and making them run on lower end systems people could continue to play games on their current set up for twice as long without upgrading.

People will get wise to them sooner or later. They must do. They are up there with EA for scum in the industry for me.

<< LINK REMOVED >> And you're only just figuring this out now ?

I always buy the latest GPU if i can afford (which is most generations), but i know i'm a sucker, i know that my current card isn't near being optimised but i'm also smart enough to know it never will be, well unless AMD force Nvidia's hand.

Remember how about 12 months into the life cycle of the AMD 7970 when the GTX 680 was out selling it easily AMD suddenly released this driver out of know where that increased performance massively. They were just sitting on the driver and only released it because Nvidia forced their hand, they didn't have new hardware to respond with so decided to optimise their current lineup of cards, they could do it again now, so could Nvidia with the 700 series, but then how they going to sell the GTX 800 series being released september.

Having said all that the Nvidia/AMD competition has been super good for gamers, that extreme tight and progressive development is pushing both companies and we all benefit, unlike the AMD/Intel battle which is pathetic with AMD limping out with new releases, letting Intel get away with incremental upgrades each year or two.

<< LINK REMOVED >>What, so you want games to not advance visually? Most if not all of these games have visual settings that you can tweak in respect to the specifications of your system. Your argument holds if you wanted to run all games maxed out at release, but there's a premium you'll have to pay for that because games advance in technology at a staggering rate. You can still pump down most modern games and run them on lower end systems, and have the games look similar to their console counterparts.

Your argument is just moot, Nvidia simply prides itself on forwarding real time visual effects, and they do a damn good job of it. Comparing them to EA is just stupid, considering many of the higher ups at EA seem to have little interest in the final product of a game opposed to fitting a release into a profit margian, getting people to pay for DLC that doesn't even exist and over hyping titles as fully fledged products opposed to something that's unfinished and buggy.

Honestly man, I think you're just angry that you cant afford the hardware to run these games at the level they currently allow, you're simply crapping on a completely valid business plan that not only perpetuates hardware and software sales, but respects the industry it inhabits.

Yes, this quite clearly means that half the gaming population are going to suffer, and what's more, if Watch Dogs is anything to go by, the Nvidia crowd probably won't even benefit from it to any noticeable degree.

I *don't* like this direction, it's bad for everyone except Nvidia. It shouldn't be allowed. This is walled garden stuff.

<< LINK REMOVED >> It very much isn't allowed, assuming there's proof that it cripples performance on non-Nvidia platforms intentionally. If Ubisoft was selling a product made to perform poorly for some customers at the behest of another company that would be considered collusion.

Games graphics are no where near that level they are talking about. Looking forward to 2017, when some really next-gen graphics might happen, I mean current-gen.
