Nintendo Wi-Fi: 2 million served

Milestones are nothing new to Nintendo. The veteran game company has recently seen a flurry of impressive sales figures stem primarily from its DS handheld, which has seen a resurgence in popularity after the release of the redesigned DS Lite. However, today's announcement from the company involves a feature that Nintendo was initially reluctant to make an integral part of its consoles--online play.

Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection service for the DS logged its 2 millionth unique user late last week, according to the company. Total individual game sessions have reached 70 million since the service's launch in mid-November.

Nintendo plans to continue its foray into online play with its upcoming console, the Wii. The next-gen system will feature WiiConnect24, an online service that will send downloads and updates to the console, which will be "always on."
