Nintendo Thwarts Game Pirates

In the continuing saga of Nintendo's crusade against video game piracy, the company puts an end to illegal game copying.

Comments

Nintendo is known for being the loudest advocate of stopping video game piracy. And the company backs its words up with actions: It has recently apprehended offenders from South America and Asia.

The newest action by Nintendo is a temporary restraining order issued against Games City, a California-based company. This prevents the store from advertising (in print and on the Internet), selling, or distributing the Doctor V64 and Game Doctor copying devices that are used to make pirated copies of Super Nintendo and Nintendo 64 game titles.

The lawsuit against Games City and its owner was filed on May 27th in US District Court. The court issued its order on June 2.

It is estimated that video game piracy costs the industry's manufacturers, developers, and publishers US$810 million each year.
