Nintendo Showed Switch Successor To Developers At Gamescom - Report

Nintendo has reportedly given a sneak peek of the Switch's successor to game developers behind closed doors at Gamescom.

As detailed in a report from Eurogamer, there were developer presentations for Nintendo's next machine and partners were shown tech demos of how well it was designed to run.

One demo reportedly was a more powerful Switch version of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild that was designed to hit the system's higher specifications. However, Eurogamer clarified that was shown was reportedly a tech demo, and there's no suggestion that the Breath of the Wild would be ported over to the new system. It also shouldn't be taken as a hint that the system is backwards compatible, either.

VGC corroborated Eurogamer's report, also mentioning that Epic's The Matrix Awakens Unreal Engine 5 tech demo ran on the new system--it was originally released to show off the power of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. Additionally, the demo was reportedly using Nvidia DLSS upscaling technology with advanced ray tracing, which puts the Switch's successor closer to the visuals of current consoles.

While Nintendo hasn't publicly announced a new system, many are speculating that it'll be released sometime in 2024. Reportedly, Nintendo wants to launch it sooner rather than later. Additionally, Nintendo previously said that it's concernedied about the transition between the Switch and the next system, wanting to make it as smooth as possible.

The Nintendo Switch still has plenty of life in it before its successor arrives. Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Super Mario RPG remake, and WarioWare: Move It are slated to launch this fall.
