Have a relaxing time by the beach in Nightingale.

Comments

Most of the food items that you'll eat in Nightingale come from plants and animals that are on land. However, there's a way for you to gain from the bounty of the sea. Here's our guide on how to go fishing in Nightingale.

Nightingale fishing guide - How to catch fish

To start fishing in Nightingale, you need to craft a Simple Fishing Rod. Here's a quick summary:

  • First, you have to build a Simple Workbench. It requires 10x Wood Bundle and 4x Plant Fiber.
  • As for the Simple Fishing Rod, you may need to purchase the blueprint from an Essence Trader in an Abeyance Realm.
  • You may then craft it if you have 1x Wood Bundle, 2x Animal Fiber, and 1x Bones. Note that Animal Fiber and Bones come from creatures that you skin.
  • Bear in mind that the "simple" types of structures and craftable items in Nightingale are early-game variants. There are higher-tier versions that you can unlock and use later in the campaign.

How to successfully complete the fishing minigame

Once you have a Simple Fishing Rod, make sure it's assigned to an action key. Then, head over to a body of water (i.e. a pond, lake, or the coast). Press and hold the left mouse button to cast your lure, and press the left mouse button again when you get a bite. This will begin the fishing minigame.

The goal is to fully deplete the fish's HP, which is represented by a red bar. To do this, you need to keep the tension on the line as close to the middle as possible. This is done by periodically pressing the left mouse button.

Note that the fish will try to wiggle away, thus increasing tension until the line snaps. Additionally, you have to look at your stamina meter, since pressing the left mouse button too often will drain your stamina quickly. We also recommend disabling the "Automatically Hide HUD" setting in the Gameplay tab--if the HUD vanishes, you might not even notice that you don't have a lot of stamina left.

The minigame is all about keeping the tension meter as close to the middle as often as possible.

Where to find the Grilled Fish recipe

Once a fish's HP bar is gone, it will magically plop down right in front of you. Simply pick it up to add it to your inventory. Upon returning to your Campfire, you're in for a surprise: You can't actually cook yet. That's because you still need the Grilled Fish recipe. Here's what you need to know:

  • The Grilled Fish recipe in Nightingale comes from Essence Traders in Astrolabe Realms.
  • The Astrolabe Card is unlocked as part of a main quest once you're finished with the trials in the Antiquarian Realm. It entails defeating a mini-dungeon boss in the Astrolabe Site of Power.
  • You then need to craft and combine the necessary Realm Cards. The biome type doesn't matter (i.e. Forest, Desert, or Swamp), but the realm type has to be the Astrolabe Card.
  • Go through the portal that you just created using the Astrolabe Card and any biome combination. Look for the Essence Trader in that world and purchase the Grilled Fish recipe for 5x T1 Essence.

In any case, this is how you catch fish in Nightingale. These aquatic creatures are just one way to get more food so you can alleviate the pangs of hunger in the game.

Nightingale lets you travel to distant realms, with their own rewards, dangers, and opportunities. For more tips and information, you can check out our guides hub.
