Sega.com has announced an agreement with the French company NextGen Software to license its NextGenIP open embedded TCP/IP stack. This will provide developers worldwide with a complete networking suite used to develop online games for the Sega Dremacast. Sega.com hopes to ease the burden of developing quality network games and to increase the production of online games for the Dreamcast console with this licensing agreement.

"We're focused on providing Dreamcast developers worldwide with the necessary development tools to create high-quality online games," said Lynn MacConnell, CTO for Sega.com. "Establishing relationships with companies like NexGen Software is key to the success of SegaNet. Being the first company to introduce online multiplayer console gaming, we're looking to strengthen SegaNet in every possible way to offer gamers the best online gaming experience ever."

Sega.com's ISP and network gaming hub SegaNet will launch on September 7.
