Next Assassin's Creed Game Visits Feudal Japan...But It's a Free Card Game On iOS

Assassin's Creed Memories is a card battling RPG that explores new areas the console and PC games have yet to feature.

No Caption Provided

When fans requested that the next Assassin's Creed game be set in Feudal Japan, this probably isn't what they meant. Ubisoft announced that Assassin's Creed Memories is available for free starting today on the iOS app store (no word on Android). According to the game's listing, it combines "card battle, RPG, and strategy gameplay" as well as "20 vs. 20 Guild vs. Guild combat."

But the most interesting inclusion in this new title are the new locations. In card-battling form, you'll be able to visit two locations that haven't come to the main series yet: Feudal Japan and Imperial Mongolia.

Is Ubisoft setting players up for further console adventures in these locations? Only time will tell. But there's no indication that the games are tied to any upcoming titles. This isn't the first mobile game to carry the Assassin's Creed moniker, however. Assassin's Creed Pirates came out for both iOS and Android last year. And this fall, the Assassin's Creed story is splitting in two directions with Assassin's Creed: Rogue for 360/PS3 and Assassin's Creed: Unity for Xbox One/PS4/PC.

But what do you think about this lastest addition to the Assassin's Creed family? Even if you're not sold on card games, at the very least it's free, but do you want to see Ubisoft continue to experiment with bringing the franchise to these new genres? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

Wow, the trolling is real. Most fans seem to want to play as a Ninja Assassin and you give them a card game. LoL Ubi, LoL. Well, I hope you Promote the hell out of it like Blizzard does their card game other wise it will get lost in the sea of card games on iOS.

Seriously because I forgot Soul Calibur had a card game and I am a huge fighting game fan.

If it's a prelude to the next REAL installment, fine. If it's not, Ubisoft is a bunch of a**holes for doing this.

No but srsly, at some point, after you`ve milked the franchise to death you`ll have to bend-over and make a real feudal-Japan game Ubi

Because that's what we want in an Assassins Creed game...a "card battle" clone on iOS. Because there aren't a thousand of them out there, and they aren't entirely identical. I'm going to guess there will be ways to buy credits, too, because card games on mobile don't use THAT as a moneymaking scam.

Maybe AC 5 will be set in Japan for all that wanted it. I'm getting a little tired of the series but I'm excited for Unity. Not sure I'll continue to keep buying them after Unity.

You're right. I only bought 4 because it was on sale and cheaper to upgrade to the PS4 version. I'm not buying Rogue because I hated the naval command in 3 and 4 (I knew it was Pirates, but it was cheap so I bought it). 5 would have to be something different for me to buy it. I wouldn't mind Japan, if it's a ninja but I doubt it.

People in these comments are insanely self entitled and idiotic. "I don't want this game! Therefore it's an awful business decision!" This game doesn't mean they can't explore the setting in a fully fledged console / PC title. It's a free game offered to fans who might be interested. No one has lost anything here. Whether you dipshits like it or not the mobile / tablet market is an important source of revenue and exposure and it would be insane for a major studio to not take advantage of it. All GS commenters think that they're 1337 PR0 GAMERZ while simultaneously showing a complete lack of understanding for how the industry works. Just because you're not interested doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

@viperdesmith These people are the customer base for this franchise.

So, if they don't want the game, no one wants the game.

Not to mention that Ubisoft and 6 dozen other companies have done this exact same thing before in the past and have said "Well, no one bought [whatever], so people aren't interested in it." and used that "logic" not to pursue it further, 100 times over.

PS. "Pro gamers" are people who get paid to play the same bad game, over and over and over and over, and not actually game for the sake of enjoying games. They know just as little about the industry as anyone else.

Post Post Script: Just because these people are pissed off doesn't mean they don't understand basic f*cking economics, you jacktard. The core gaming audience does not game on mobile. Assassin's creed is a title solely for the core gaming audience. Trying to expand into fringe areas using an idea your core audience has made it quite vocal that they want to buy on a specific product, is a very bad business decision.

Just an example: RE revelations was made specifically for 3DS and Capcom didn't even try to port it for a year. It sold less than a million units. Guess what. It came out on the machines the core customers use, and sold over a million easily.

Business isn't that hard to understand, that's why failure's and craptastic members of society flood to it,

Think much?

So you know what's going to happen? If Ubi does decide to do this topic properly, they've already lost a fair chunk of money just from pissing off their customers. Gamers are a spiteful, whining, grudge-holding lot.

Times like these I'm reminded of industry people going "Waaah the mobile isn't taken seriously as a platform."

Well when my mobile has a 64 bit nvidia tegra and can run an actual Assassin's Creed game, but you put Assassin's Creed Blackjack on it instead, what do you want people to think?

Seriously f*ck the game industry, these people are insanely incompetent. All of them. It takes 25 minutes, throw a f*cking limesurvey survey up on your website "What do you customer fools want in the next AC?" and watch MILLIONS of results come in.

Then sort through them in Excel, not that god damn hard. You don't even have to pay a god damn web developer to make a fancy survey because limesurvey is FREE.

Hopefully this will herald in the ending of this franchise now that they've figuratively taken a poo on all of us.

@thorn3000 @grenadehh Then they obviously f'ed it up royally. I'm not sure how you look at the data and go "Hey people want Japan, let's make nice japanese backgrounds for our CARD GAME."

Utter abysmal failure in planning there.

I know, because ALL those super successful Assassin's Creed tablet games that came before, let's make this feudal japan game!

<< LINK REMOVED >> To be honest though, it's hard to say what's in the works. Unity was started after AC2 was finished, so they very likely have AC5 in the works as we speak. It's entirely possible that it's based in Japan and they've got a primary team working on it right now.

Who knows.
