The upcoming Super Smash Bros. game will have a stage based on Wii U game New Super Mario Bros. U called "Mushroom Kingdom U," game director Masahiro Sakurai announced today. In a post on Miiverse, Sakurai posted multiple images of the Wii U stage, along with fighters like Mario, Mega Man, Sonic, and Rosalina.

The Mushroom Kingdom U stage has at least two variations, the first of which you can see above. When Kamek casts a spell, however, the stage transforms dramatically into a different layout (at left). However, that's the limit of the transformation, Sakurai says. "This is not what you would call a moving stage," Sakurai said.

It's unclear how exactly Sakurai defines "moving stage," but it sounds like the Mushroom Kingdom U stage will be more static that Super Smash Bros. Brawl for Wii's auto-scrolling Mushroom Kingdom level.

This stage for Super Smash Bros. Wii U will be playable at E3 2014 next week and at Best Buy stores across the United States. There's no word on whether or not the Mushroom Kingdom U stage will also be playable in the 3DS version. The new Super Smash Bros. game comes to 3DS this summer, with the Wii U version to follow sometime this winter.

Nintendo recently announced that Super Smash Bros. for Wii U is compatible with GameCube controllers thanks to a special adapter.
