New Starfield 1.7.33 Patch Notes Include Fix For Freezing, Game Crashes, and Disappearing NPCs

Though brief, the patch notes address a number of issues within the game, and include a fix meant to address the game's habit of randomly freezing and crashing.

Bethesda's epic space adventure is finally here, but like most Bethesda games, Starfield is still a little buggy, even after being patched right after release. Although some of the worst offenders were addressed prior to the game's official launch, there are still plenty bugs in Bethesda's massive new RPG, though not all of them are necessarily a bad thing--in fact, several bugs can be exploited for monetary gain, early access to restricted loot, or the ability to obtain endless resources. Still, some bugs are not so player-friendly, like repeated game crashes--something Bethesda is aiming to fix via the latest 1.7.33 patch.

Though the patch notes are surprisingly short (and rather vague), it's important to remember that not all studios list every single bug they've fixed when they publish patch notes, so don't be too surprised if some or all of the previously mentioned "beneficial bugs" have been addressed via the latest patch. It's also possible that these "good" bugs will stick around a while longer, so make sure you grab that high-tier spacesuit from the basement in The Lodge before it inevitably gets patched out, assuming it hasn't been addressed by today's patch.

The latest patch addresses stability and performance, but also lists several very specific bug fixes. Some of the most significant fixes in the 1.7.33 patch are listed below:

  • Fixed an issue that caused certain characters to appear in the wrong spot (or not appear at all)
  • Fixed a issue that saw certain Star Stations labeled as the player's personal ship
  • Fixed a bug that would give players access to a vendor's entire inventory
  • Addressed several graphics issues, including one that could trigger players with photosensitive epilepsy, and an upscaling issue that caused textures to become blurry
  • Fixed a bug that was causing use of the Hand Scanner to result in hitching
  • Various performance and stability issues that led to the game freezing and crashing have been addressed
  • Fixed a bug that caused items applied to an in-ship mannequin to randomly disappear
  • Addressed a bug that was causing items stored in Weapon Racks and Razorleaf Storage Containers to disappear after stealing a ship.

If you do discover that one of your favorite bugs is now gone, don't get too broken-hearted, as there are plenty of other ways to game the system, like repeatedly getting laid. Additionally, Bethesda has confirmed that there are plenty more updates and fixes still on the way.
