New details have come to light about the Star Wars movie from Lost's Damon Lindelof and Oscar-winning director Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. The film has yet to be officially announced, but The Hollywood Reporter shed some light on the project, including who is writing it and what the story could be.

Sources told the site that the film is envisioned as a one-and-done movie, but if it's successful, there could be sequels. In terms of the story, the site's sources said it may be set after the events of 2019's The Rise of Skywalker, but it "would not be a continuation of the Skywalker saga."

This film might have "some of the characters" from the latest Star Wars trilogy that spanned The Force Awakens (2015), The Last Jedi (2017), and The Rise of Skywalker (2019). The report did not say if any of the actors from those films will come back.

The new and untitled Star Wars movie--which is only a rumor for now--will be written by Lindelof and Justin Britt-Gibson, the report said. Britt-Gibson wrote for the TV series Counterpart and was an executive story editor for The Strain.

As for when the new Star Wars movie might be released, that's anyone's guess, but The Hollywood Reporter said there likely won't be any new Star Wars movies until 2025.

According to a previous report, this new Star Wars film seems to have "the most momentum" of all the Star Wars movie projects in development. Others include Taika Waititi's film, a Rogue Squadron movie from Wonder Woman director Patty Jenkins, and Rian Johnson's new trilogy.

The last Star Wars movie was 2019's The Rise of Skywalker. Going forward, Lucasfilm boss Kathleen Kennedy said the goal is to create a "whole new saga" for Star Wars. "That takes a lot. There's a lot of conversation around that," she said.

While fans have to wait a while for the next Star Wars movie, the TV series Andor is airing now on Disney+. There are a number of new Star Wars games in the works, too--check out the gallery below to learn more.
