Details are light at the moment, but it will be written by Makoto Fukami (Psycho-Pass) and directed by Takanori Tsujimoto (Hard Revenge Milly, Ultraman X). In addition, The Grudge creator Takashi Shimizu is attached as an executive producer for the computer-generated film. Capcom's Hiroyuki Kobayashi, who also produces the live-action Resident Evil movies, is on-board as an executive supervisor.

This isn't the first animated Resident Evil movie. It will follow 2012's Resident Evil: Damnation and 2008's Resident Evil: Degeneration.

The Final Chapter, meanwhile, comes to theaters in January 2017. Jovovich's stuntwoman was badly injured on set, but is now out of a coma and recovering.

In Resident Evil game news, Capcom is working on HD remakes of Resident Evil Zero and Resident Evil 2. In addition, the publisher has told gamers to "stay tuned" for news about Resident Evil 7.
