Tarzan is one of the most popular figures in fiction over the past century--from his first appearance in an Edgar Rice Burroughs novel in 1912, the jungle-dwelling hero has appeared in dozens of films, TV shows, comic books, and video games. His latest cinematic incarnation is The Legend of Tarzan, which stars True Blood's Alexander Skarsgård and comes to cinemas in July. A new trailer has been released--check it out below:

The film is directed by David Yates, who made the last four Harry Potter movies and is helming the upcoming Potter spinoff Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them. Appearing alongside Skarsgård are the likes of Margot Robbie, Samuel L. Jackson, Christoph Waltz, and Djimon Hounsou.

In a recent interview with Cinemablend, Waltz explained what would set this version of Tarzan apart from previous fims. "It's just a different story," he said. "It doesn't modernize it, it doesn't reinterpret it. There are aspects that are modern in as much it is modernized dramatic aspects, and story aspects.

"It's slightly politicized; I mean, you know, the social context and historical. Actually you know there are--it's anchored in historical facts. So there's a difference already."

The Legend of Tarzan is released on July 1, 2016.
