New Kingdom Of The Planet Of The Apes Trailer Shows Off Big Bad Proximus

The tyrant has no love for humans--or the apes who help them.

Proximus doesn't look like a generous ruler in Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes. A new trailer for the upcoming sequel showcases the big bad's ruthlessness, who lets it be known you "bend for your king."

Debuting during the Super Bowl, the official trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes also touches on the simian-and-human relationship between Noa (The Stand's Owen Teague) and Nova (The Witcher's Freya Allen). In fact, Noa declares in the video seen below: "Apes hunt humans. That is wrong."

To say this rubs Proximus (Lost and X-Men Origins: Wolverine actor Kevin Durand) the wrong way is an understatement. The tyrant lets Noa know in the trailer that "together, you will die." The human Nova seems to be a primary target for the apes in the upcoming sequel. Noa learns this is because she's "smarter than most," but there also seems to be more behind the mystery.

The first trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes arrived in November and focused on the setting for director Wes Ball's sequel. The film is set roughly 300 years after the last film, 2017's War for the Planet of the Apes (helmed by Matt Reeves).

Last month, the release date for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes got moved up to avoid competing directly with Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga. So now the sequel will premiere on May 10.
