New Horror Movie The Lodge Gets Terrifying Snowbound Trailer

Winter chills.

From Night of the Living Dead to The Shining, there are few things scarier in horror movies than being trapped in an isolated location, unable to escape from something that wants to kill you. It's exactly that primal fear that the upcoming horror movie The Lodge looks set to mine. The movie releases next month and a new trailer has been released.

Like The Shining, The Lodge uses an impenetrable winter as its setting. A man named Richard, his new girlfriend Grace, and his two kids head to a remote cabin for the winter. But when he is forced to leave for work on short notice and blizzard descends, the children find themselves trapped in the house with a woman they barely know--who, inevitably, is not all she seems. Anyone who saw directors Veronika Franz and Severin Fiala's last film, the terrifying Goodnight Mommy, will know that they don't mess around when it comes to delivering seriously scary modern horror. Check the trailer out below.

The Lodge stars Mad Max: Fury Road's Riley Keough as Grace, plus Jaeden Martell, Lia McHugh, and Richard Armitage. It hits theaters on February 7.

Like Goodnight Mommy, The Lodge puts two children in the center of its scary story. In a recent interview with Deadline, Fiala spoke about the reason that he and Franz uses kids in their films. "We feel it makes horror films very interesting if they involve kids, because kids are always deemed innocent, in a way," he said. "We don't like horror films where just one guy is the bad guy, and it's very obvious. We're more interested in… shades of gray."

"Working with kids, we really enjoy, because we feel filmmaking can be exhausting, or at some points, also boring," he continued. "But with kids, it's less predictable. Some fun and some spontaneous energy enters the film, which is something that we really appreciate."
