Horror fans who keep their eyes on film festivals will know about acclaimed shockers screening many months in advance of their actual releases. The upcoming British chiller Saint Maud has been doing the festival rounds since late summer last year, and it will finally hit theaters in April. A new trailer has now been released.

While some movies are kept under-wraps until shortly before its release, others are screened months in advance at film festivals, resulting in what is often a long wait to see them. The upcoming horror movie Saint Maud has been doing the festival rounds since late summer last year, but it will finally hit theaters in April. A new trailer, timed to be released on Ash Wednesday, is now with us.

A lot of buzz has built up for the movie over the past few months, and watching this dark and unnerving trailer, it's easy to see why. The plot focuses on a nurse who becomes infatuated with one of her dying patients and starts to believe that she might be possessed. The movie stars Morfydd Clark, who appeared in last year's horror hit Crawl, and Jennifer Ehle (the Fifty Shades movies). Check it out below:

Saint Maud is directed by first-time British filmmaker Rose Glass, and it hits theaters on April 3. In a recent interview with Cineuropa, Glass spoke about other horror movies she was influenced by. "[Roman Polanski's] Repulsion was a significant influence on Saint Maud," she said. "I like the tone and visual style of early Polanski, but I didn't really think of it consciously in that way. I always knew that I wanted the film to be heightened and kind of fun. I wanted to put the audience inside Maud's head, so it's this very visceral, heightened, sensual ride, hopefully."
