New God of War in Development at Sony Santa Monica

Next God of War might be a reboot, but it won't be a prequel.

A new game in the God of War series is in development at Sony Santa Monica, the studio's Creative Director Cory Barlog let slip today at the PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas.

Barlog confirmed that the game was in development in response to a question from a fan during the God of War retrospective panel. According to a tweet from Santa Monica Studio's official account, he probably wasn't supposed to.

According to a report from IGN, Barlog said the game was definitely not going to be a prequel, but it might be a reboot for the series. Barlog also said the game is very early in development, and that he hoped to share more in the next year or two.

God of War III director Stig Asmussen left Sony Santa Monica back in march. He did not work on God of War: Ascension, the last game in the series released in 2013, and was reportedly leading development on a new IP that Sony canceled as part of a round of layoffs.

Dude you might like Lords of the Fallen. I keep saying " Darkisders. Dark souls. Darksiders. Dark souls" while I play it and I love both those games. Minus some of the infuriating puzzles in Darksiders. Lords of the Fallen is awesome too. It doesn't have a $500 million advertising budget but it's easily a sleeper hit this year.

Did you not catch that I don't want a PlayStation? Because there's no games, no reason I would get one.

Transistor (hopefully comes to Xbox One), Flower, Journey, Unfinished Swan, Infamous, Killzone, Knack is all I would own right now. That's seven games (three that are more than indie) that look moderately good to me. I'd have all multiplat games on Xbox One because online is tremendously better, controller is better, and they actually run a lot better, as I'm not blind and don't think that Sony forcing companies to make their games in 1080P, limiting all other GFX, is a good thing.

You know what's better than all those games? Sunset Overdrive, Titanfall, Dead Rising 3, Ryse and the best Indie game of all time Super Time Force etc. etc. etc. etc. etc.

Keep in mind, that's just my library.

I would not play any of those if I had a console. I'm more into Adventure / Story games like Last of Us, Red Dead Redemption, San Andreas, God of War, Kingdom hearts, Deus Ex, etc


I applaud you for finding games you enjoy, though. Shadow of Mordor and Telltale's Borderlands were the only games I played this year. Boring year.. I'm picking up a Playstation in 2015. Uncharted 4, Until Dawn, and a few other PS games look worthwhile.

That was just a list of games you won't find on ps4. As far as adventure/story games go maybe you like:

Assassin's Creed IV, Child of Light, Contrast, Dead Rising 3, Diablo IIII, Destiny, Game of Thrones, Guacamelee, Halo MCC, Lego Marvel Super Heroes, Max, Metal Gear Solid V, Metro(s), Shadow of Mordor, Murdered Soul Suspect, Never Alone, Pier Solar, Rayman Legends, Ryse, Stick it to the Man, Sunset Overdrive, Tales From the Borderlands, The Evil Within, Thief, Tomb Raider, Valiant Hearts, Wolfenstein.

Again that's just my personal collection.

Man, when they got the number one quarter back in the league Russell Wilson on Xbox Fitness I kinda freaked out a little bit!

Grats on having an opinion.

I love the game. Reminds me of Panzer Dragoon Orta for the OG Xbox, with quite a bit more freedom. Hard to get the controls down, maybe you gave up like a lot of people, but once you get them the game is super fun, could play for hours and hours.

Oddly enough, God of War is one of my favorite franchise ever. Especially God of War 2. Man this game was just perfect. Bring it on, I'm ready for more Kratos.

I've never liked this series. I've tried. Both on PS and PSP. Just never got into it. It has a huge following though. Hopefully it will live up to expectations.
