New God of War in Development at Sony Santa Monica

Next God of War might be a reboot, but it won't be a prequel.

A new game in the God of War series is in development at Sony Santa Monica, the studio's Creative Director Cory Barlog let slip today at the PlayStation Experience event in Las Vegas.

Barlog confirmed that the game was in development in response to a question from a fan during the God of War retrospective panel. According to a tweet from Santa Monica Studio's official account, he probably wasn't supposed to.

According to a report from IGN, Barlog said the game was definitely not going to be a prequel, but it might be a reboot for the series. Barlog also said the game is very early in development, and that he hoped to share more in the next year or two.

God of War III director Stig Asmussen left Sony Santa Monica back in march. He did not work on God of War: Ascension, the last game in the series released in 2013, and was reportedly leading development on a new IP that Sony canceled as part of a round of layoffs.

Almost all gods have killed by kratos exept the super saiyan god. This might be interesting.

While i was let down as a long time fan by what i thought would've been awesome in God of War 3, i sorta have some faith being restored in the series now that i see Barlog is back as he did amazing things with God of War 2!!

Interesting as believe it or not i had way more fun with Ascension than i did with 3, real talk!! Guess most hated Ascension since Kratos was just a mere mortal in it and not a God seeing as it was a prequel but to me, i found it a lot better and more fun than 3 but hey, to each their own!

It did feel a a bit more stream-lined in some way: considering #2's broader puzzles and hub-like sense of scale.GOW is the pinnacle of western hack'n'slash games...and the list of all-round contenders is very small: Onimusha, Devil May Cry, and Bayonetta are the only ones that immediately come to mind.

The only things i enjoyed about 3 was the graphics and the violence, those 2 things and maybe the quick weapon switching mechanics, those aside, i just found it to be all weak and boring and pretty glitchy too especially in that scorpion boss fight in Labyrinth! It just didn't do it for me leaving me with that WOW factor the way the 1st 2 did!

Hehe, no thank you, did that already and that was when doing it just to take on very hard on Chaos mode and although i succeeded that and got the trophy, that was even worst with glitches than when i played on normal!

On Chaos mode when i was in many levels i encountered glitch problems! In Hera's Garden level i recall fighting enemies that got stuck in the tunnel paths when transitioning from 1 part of the garden to another, it's like you couldn't hit them but they could hit you, then there was that level where they 1st introduce those metallic stone like enemies with hammers and what not, those guys would swing at me and i'd be a fairly good distance away and you clearly see the swing misses Kratos yet the game registers it as a hit and i'd lose a big chunk of my health, there was also that part i mentioned in an earlier post here about the Labyrinth, that area was just messed up on Chaos mode in all kinds of ways, practically felt unfinished to me with how they went about ironing out the glitch issues and dear lord, don't get me started on that scorpion boss battle on that mode, was a mess! I experienced these and more that just further deterred me from wanting to ever return to playing it!

Can't wait!! More dark ultra-violent games like god of war, Tomb raider, and Blood borne please. Never had a PS3 but I'm loving the ps4 this gen. When one of the free games of the month is Outlast, I know that Sony is heading in the direction that I want my games console to be heading.

Been waiting for a sequel to GoW 3 that ending was such a cliffhanger, it felt like I was back in 04 and chief was telling me "finishing this fight" all over again.

Why reboot it? The main trilogy wrapped up nicely. There are a million different directions that they can go in from the ending of GoW III.

I'd go with the Norse over Egyptian as it would feel totally different to Greece, Egypt could be a bit samey.

God of War is always good, I just don't like how short GoW3 was compared to the first two. Hopefully future games will have better, more challenging puzzles and possibly add more variety to the gameplay.

I'll buy a PS4 once this game comes out. I bought a PS3 when GoW 3 came out. I love these games and they aren't even the best hack n' slash games. They just look awesome and have a cool atmosphere. .
