New Game of Thrones Season 7 Trailer Sets Up Another Big Power Struggle

Fear is for the winter

HBO has released a new trailer for Game of Thrones Season 7, ahead of the acclaimed series' return on July 16. The video features Daenerys Targaryen in the Iron Islands, which makes sense given her allegiance with the Greyjoys at the end of Season 6. Cersei Lannister, meanwhile, takes a seat on the Iron Throne, likely filling the power vacuum left after the explosive end to the previous season. Finally, Jon Snow looks to be in Winterfell, brooding as always.

The trailer ends by pulling out of the Night's King eye, showing that the White Walkers will play a big role in the upcoming season. HBO also included a tag alongside the video that reads, "Fear is for the winter."

Emilia Clarke, who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the show, has indicated that filming is done and described the new season as a "mind-blower." In January, Arya Stark actress Maisie Williams said Game of Thrones Season 7 is "so exciting," particularly the ending and the finale. She apparently does not know if her character will survive.

Following Season 7, one more Game of Thrones season is planned. This may not be end the of Game of Thrones altogether, however, as the show's creators have talked about possible spinoffs.

When Game of Thrones Season 7 begins in July, GameSpot of Thrones--GameSpot's companion show--will also return. You can get caught up on the last season of GameSpot of Thrones on YouTube here.
