New Dragon Quest Looks Like Minecraft in its First Screenshots

Earlier this month, Square Enix announced a new spinoff in the Dragon Quest series called Dragon Quest Builders. Today, the company released the first screenshots of the game, showing off its characters, monsters, and world.

From these images, the game looks a lot like Minecraft. Its art style, however, is similar to the main games in the long-running RPG series. The main character depicted in the images looks a lot like the characters from Dragon Quest VIII (although to me, he or she just looks like Link from The Legend of Zelda: The Minish Cap).

The images suggest some gameplay mechanics, as well. It appears that characters will be able to mine materials from the land using a hammer, which can only be used for so long before it breaks or needs to be repaired. Additionally, players will build bases to house the game's NPCs and to launch attacks on monsters from.

Not much else is known about the game except that it is currently exclusive to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 3, and Vita.
