Sega has announced new details regarding Virtua Fighter 4 for the PlayStation 2. Similar to other games in the series, VF4 will include a healthy amount of new gameplay mechanics. The updated control scheme will use a three-button system for punch, kick, and guard and will utilize eight different directions for movement. Additionally, new systems for defense, stored-up offense, and avoiding offense will be implemented.

From a graphical perspective, VF4 will include dynamic special effects and a healthy amount of real-time lighting. Sega will incorporate character data cards into the arcade version of Virtua Fighter 4 that keep track of statistics for wins, losses, and more.

Virtua Fighter 4 is scheduled for release on the PlayStation 2 at the end of this year. We'll have more on Sega's next fighting game when it becomes available.
