Abrams will produce with Bruce Timm and Matt Reeves as part of his massive development and production deal with WarnerMedia. Timm is best known for creating Batman: The Animated Series, which ran between 1992 and 1995 and is considered by many fans as one of the best ever Batman releases.

In a statement, Abrams, Reeves, and Timm said, "We are beyond excited to be working together to bring this character back, to tell engrossing new stories in Gotham City. The series will be thrilling, cinematic, and evocative of Batman's noir roots, while diving deeper into the psychology of these iconic characters. We cannot wait to share this new world." Batman: Caped Crusader doesn't have a release date yet.

The next Batman movie is The Batman, which is directed by Reeves and hits theaters in March 2022. In addition, Reeves is producing an HBO Max spin-off show currently titled GCPD, which will focus on Gotham's police department.
