BioWare has released a progress report on its upcoming role-playing game Neverwinter Nights. According to the company, a great deal of progress has been made on the game in the last two months. The programming team has been revising the combat system, working on the numerous graphical user interfaces that will be used in the game, and "tightening up the code" to make sure the game is stable. The art team has been creating a great deal of content, including portraits, icons, textures, and models. In addition, the art team has been building the tilesets, which are complicated 3D objects requiring two sets of 3D meshes--one visual and one physical--that are used by the engine to determine pathfinding, collision detection, and sound effect information. The design team is writing dialog, planning out the magic items that will appear in the official campaign, and testing out the scripting language.

Neverwinter Nights is scheduled for release in September. For more detailed information about the progress of the game, read the complete progress report on the official Neverwinter Nights Web site.
