Neverwinter Nights up for grabs?

Interplay loses the publishing rights to BioWare's eagerly awaited Dungeons & Dragons role-playing game.

Comments

BioWare has announced that it has terminated its contract with Interplay Entertainment to publish its upcoming role-playing game, Neverwinter Nights. Despite the announcement, the developer plans to release the Dungeons & Dragons game on schedule in early 2002. A company representative declined to comment on whether BioWare will self-publish the game or if it is currently looking for a new publisher.

Neverwinter Nights is set in a medieval fantasy world, and it uses the 3rd Edition Dungeons & Dragons role-playing system. It will include an extensive single-player campaign and a multiplayer mode that supports up to 64 players per server. The game features an innovative dungeon master system that will let players create and run their own adventures.

Neverwinter Nights is in development at BioWare, the studio that created the popular Baldur's Gate role-playing game series, and it is scheduled for release in the first quarter of 2002. For more information, take a look at our in-depth previews of the game.
