The Netflix series Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's cult comic book of the same title, and Season 1 was highly acclaimed when it hit in 2019. Umbrella Academy Season 2 is due for release next month, and the first official images and synopsis from the new season are here.

The synopsis reveals that the new season will start in the 1960s, with the Hargreeves siblings having been sent back in time by Five. The images show the '60s setting, with plenty of amusing period details. Check them out below:

The synopsis reads, "Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya's 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right--the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they're the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which--spoiler alert!--turns out is a result of the group's disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything."

Umbrella Academy Season 2 stars Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aiden Gallagher as Number Five, and Justin H. Min as Ben. It hits Netflix on July 31.

Umbrella Academy Season 1 hit Netflix in February 2019. In her review of Season 1 for GameSpot, Meg Downey said "Umbrella Academy stumbles a few times in the pacing department," but although it "throws a lot at the wall, most everything sticks." There's Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aiden Gallagher as Number Five, and Justin H. Min as Ben. Check two of them out below, and the rest over at the Umbrella Academy account.
