Netflix's Umbrella Academy Season 2 Images Reveal Retro Setting
The second season of the acclaimed comic book show releases in July.
The Netflix series Umbrella Academy is an adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's cult comic book of the same title, and Season 1 was highly acclaimed when it hit in 2019. Umbrella Academy Season 2 is due for release next month, and the first official images and synopsis from the new season are here.
The synopsis reveals that the new season will start in the 1960s, with the Hargreeves siblings having been sent back in time by Five. The images show the '60s setting, with plenty of amusing period details. Check them out below:
The synopsis reads, "Five warned his family (so, so many times) that using his powers to escape from Vanya's 2019 apocalypse was risky. Well, he was right--the time jump scatters the siblings in time in and around Dallas, Texas. Over a three year period. Starting in 1960. Some, having been stuck in the past for years, have built lives and moved on, certain they're the only ones who survived. Five is the last to land, smack dab in the middle of a nuclear doomsday, which--spoiler alert!--turns out is a result of the group's disruption of the timeline (déjà vu, anyone?). Now the Umbrella Academy must find a way to reunite, figure out what caused doomsday, put a stop to it, and return to the present timeline to stop that other apocalypse. All while being hunted by a trio of ruthless Swedish assassins. But seriously, no pressure or anything."
Umbrella Academy Season 2 stars Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aiden Gallagher as Number Five, and Justin H. Min as Ben. It hits Netflix on July 31.
Umbrella Academy Season 1 hit Netflix in February 2019. In her review of Season 1 for GameSpot, Meg Downey said "Umbrella Academy stumbles a few times in the pacing department," but although it "throws a lot at the wall, most everything sticks." The Netflix-produced adaptation of Gerard Way and Gabriel Bá's cult comic book Umbrella Academy was one of the most acclaimed television comic adaptations of the last few years, and because of that anticipation is high for Season 2. While we don't yet know when in 2020 the second season will arrive, a new series of posters have been released, and they're fairly mysterious.
The posters were tweeted by the show's official account. There's seven of them and they're incredibly stylish--each gives us a look at a different member of the Hargreeves family. There's Ellen Page as Vanya, Tom Hopper as Luther, Emmy Raver-Lampman as Allison, David Castañeda as Diego, Robert Sheehan as Klaus, Aiden Gallagher as Number Five, and Justin H. Min as Ben. Check two of them out below, and the rest over at the Umbrella Academy account.
