Netflix's GLOW will not be returning for a fourth and final season. The drama/comedy was originally renewed back in August 2019, but has now become the latest casualty of the coronavirus-related production shutdowns that have taken over the entertainment industry.

According to Deadline, GLOW was about three weeks into filming its fourth season when production was suspended in mid-March. At the time of the shutdown, GLOW had completed only one episode.

The series, which starred Alison Brie, Betty Gilpin, and Marc Maron, earned a multitude of award nominations and critical acclaim, including an Emmy on its premiere season for Best Comedy Series, Best Supporting Actress for Glipin, and Best Directing for the pilot. Brie also earned her first Golden Globe nomination for Best Actress as well. Maron channeled his inner Jay Sherman to confirm the news.

GLOW series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said in a statement to Deadline the seriousness of the virus and how it should be their priority. "COVID also took down our show. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW."

"We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that's gone. There's a lot of s***** things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don't get to see these 15 women in a frame together again."

"We'll miss our cast of weirdo clowns and our heroic crew," added Flahive and Mensch. "It was the best job. Register to vote. And please vote."

GLOW is the latest hit series to be canceled by Netflix after Altered Carbon and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina also were canceled this year.
