Netflix Live-Action Gundam Film Lands Metal Gear Solid Director

The first-ever live-action Gundam movie now has its director and producer as Metal Gear Solid movie director Jordan Vogt-Roberts has signed on to the film. Brian K. Vaughn (Y: The Last Man) is writing the script and is an executive producer on the Gundam film.

Godzilla studio Legendary, with whom Vogt-Roberts made Kong: Skull Island, is producing the movie.

Netflix is keeping the story a secret, but it will surely feature the franchise's popular Mobile Suits. "The Gundam universe is replete with numerous story lines of love and conflict along with the popular Gundam battles, in which the characters operate robot suits called Mobile Suits," Netflix said in a press release.

The Gundam movie will be available on Netflix everywhere except China, where it will be available in theaters.

There is no word yet on who may star in the Gundam movie, when it will film, or when it will release. Keep checking back with GameSpot for the latest.

The Gundam series was created in 1979 by Sunrise and has become a global juggernaut across anime, manga, animated films, video games, toys, and novels.

As for the Metal Gear movie, it's been in the works for some time, with Oscar Isaac attached to play Solid Snake.
